im a die hard brave fan and i read furcal's top interest is atl and then the mets. i also read the cubs re-signed their previous ss neffi perez so i seriously doubt they would pay more money for a guy whose position is already taken.

go vols and braves

The rumor floating around Atlanta is that Furcal will have a 4 yr $38 million offer from the Cubs by the end of the weekend. If that happens, I'd bet the Braves don't even make an offer, slide Wilson Betemit in at SS and get into the market for a new leadoff man.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read this:

the New York Yankees have also contacted him to find out if Furcal would consider playing center field.

They are getting dangerously close to operating like a Fantasy League team.

I don't think it really matters. Money does not guarantee anything in baseball.

it pretty much guarantees the playoffs. but after that it meanst nothing. no sports can really be bought. hockey maybe before the rules change.

Maybe so, but you still have to have smart people running things. Otherwise, the Orioles and Mets would make the playoffs.

the cubs are trying to trade patterson and a prospect or two for pierre. id like pierre, but id rather have damon. i dont think the cubs want nomar back and he will likely end up on the west coast. as far as furcal, the cubs will likely be giving furcal the biggest offer, but idk if he'll bite. neifi is a backup for ss and 2nd. i am a little confused though, because ive heard they want furcal at ss and cedeno at 2nd with neifi backing both up, but why would they have picked up walkers option as well? are they going to use one as trade bait or use walker and neifi as backups? ive heard the cubs are also interested in signing a millwood/washburn type pitcher. id love to get the pitcher from japan with that unknown pitch(gyroball). other than that, all ive heard is they might try to sign another mid range of.

nomar will want to much money. he is gone. if we get furcal and pierre, d-lee and ramirez will be unstoppable.

nomar wont get much no matter what, furcal wants 50 mil which wont happen. nomar would be lucky to get half that right now. pierre and furcal would be good, but the problem is ego. furcal swings too much for the fences for the small guy and pierre was the biggest bust of last year. they are both lead off guys and we dont need two. they would clash. damon/furcal would be great or nomar/pierre, but i doubt either will happen. in all likelihood, u will see a starting 8 something like this

c-barrett
1-lee
2-walker/cedeno/neifi
ss-neifi/cedeno
3-ramirez
lf-murton
cf-patterson
rf-???(prolly some travelling veteran, ala jeromy burnitz)

and a starting 5 of

prior
wood
zambrano
maddux
williams/rusch/hill/mitre

they will sign a few newcomers in the bullpen instead of using some of their better minor leaguers. this team will look alot like last years unfortunately.

you think they are going to move wood back into the starting rotation?

I think the cubs will give him the best offer. I think they will get him. and i cant see wood back in the starting rotation, he is just going to get hurt and mess up his arm again.

idk, id say wood is back, and prolly hurt again and maybe gone after this year. idk that furcal gets 50, he swings too much for the fences and unless the yanks convince him to play cf, he wont get that much.

well I just hope we get a leadoff man for sure. but hell if we get juan pierre and furcal, thats dangerous.

it would look like this

pierre
furcal
d-lee
a-ram
and does it matter after this???

itd be dangerous if pierre returns to his old self and furcal can deal with not being the lead off hitter. i just think furcal swings for the fences too much and the cubs dont need that. we need obp.
