Cuonzo Feeling Unwanted

The whole situation looks worse because of who Hart hired to replace Martin, and obviously the events that followed that led to where we are now. If Hart had gotten Michael White you're likely looking at a much more stable job, a better roster, and a season predicted to be much better than the current one...and most of all we aren't the poster boy for what an unstable program looks like having 3 coaches in 3 years.

Cuonzo Martin being a crybaby has zero to do with Donnie Tyndall or Dave Hart

Martin left Tennessee because he knew he would not survive the 2014-2015 season because he hadn't recruited well at all. So he took full advantage of his sweet 16 appearance and got out of town. And I love the part about not being able to use the boosters plane the guy was using UT planes to go to job interviews.

There's no way Martin had nearly the same pressure and fan venom that Dooley had, and that was going on for most of the time Martin was here. Sure there was some fan backlash but it wasn't nearly as bad as Dooley.

He didn't even have 1/10 of the pressure that Butch Jones has had this season in the entire 3 years he was here. I see no one pulling the race card on Butch. It comes down to one thing with most of our fanbase...winning. It doesn't matter how well you recruit, market, etc. If you aren't winning our fan base will turn on you quick. Look at what happened with Butch and the rumors about fighting a player smh. If that would have happened to CCM he would have retired from coaching. How did CBJ respond to the rumors? With a W over one of our SEC rivals.

Coaching support at UT comes down to one thing and it will always come down too it and that's WINNING. If CCM would have toughened up he would have done great here. He was still learning while he was here and lost some close recruiting battles. He hired the right coaches at Cal and is recruiting very well. He just wasn't a tougher breed.

This.

If we had made the NCAAT all 3 years (and that was very possible) and we had beaten all the teams we had no business losing to (Austin Peay), nobody would have cared. Sure there will always be a portion of the fanbase that are "Pearl or nobody" types, but they are morons and the minority. I don't recall any huge dropoff in attendance from Pearl's last season to Martin's first; in fact I recall very vividly the place was rocking when we beat Vandy at the end of the 2012 season and Missouri at the end of the 2013 season. Everyone got excited in both 2012 and 2013 when the team got hot.

In fact, in 2012 when the team got hot is when the fanbase was most certainly behind him, and had he even continued that fire at the beginning of 2013, the petition never happens.

I was at that game. Made the 3 1/2 hour drive expecting to get tickets easily off a scalper, only to walk around for 30 mins because there were none. Ended up paying $100 each for 2 tickets in the upper section just so I could watch the game lol. That place was rocking and I know I paid way too much for them, but it was well worth it to see TBA rocking the way it was.

He smiles now like a man who no longer fights through the background static that muddied his time in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 2014, his turbulent three-season tenure at Tennessee ended with a Sweet 16 run. It was the first time since 1997 that the Vols had reached the NCAA tournament's second weekend. Still, that March burst happened after thousands of Vols fans had signed a petition seeking his dismissal and the return of former coach Bruce Pearl. Soon after, Martin left Tennessee and accepted an offer from Cal.

Wait! Wut? Did I dream the Pearl era at UT?

Dude had a story to tell, details to embellish. That Elite 8 appearance that left us 1 successful possession away from the Final Four under Pearl took the shine off what he thought was one of his best points, so he couldn't mention it. Besides, nobody outside of Tennessee fans would really know his statement was wrong and we're not the audience that he's trying to convince that Tennessee fans are a bunch of dangerous, unfair racists anyway.

Edit: did they edit the story online st ESPN? Cause I'm reading it now and it's says "It was the second time since 2008 that the Vols had reached the NCAA tournament's second weekend." Confused.

For whatever reason Cuonzo enables this kind of talk. UT gave him a job he wasn't qualified for and made him a millionaire and he is still whining a year and half later because he was receiving some heat for taking a team with 3 NBA players to the bubble.

He needs to shut up and move on.

Exactly!!

My daddy is one of the wisest men I have ever met. He taught me 50+ years ago to never trust a man that looks at the floor when he talks.

Cunzo looks down most of the time he talks, thus I never did trust him.

This logic is a little flawed. Pearl and Tyndall looked you dead in the face. Would you trust them over CCM? I loved Pearl but being honest wasn't his strong suite.

Tennessee still has a men's basketball program? Why don't we have a forum for it? :)

Obvious hit piece. Cuonzo obviously still working through his issues with the jilt, but 'private' is the place that needs to be worked out. To play the race card is just despicable.

Lets see what happens at Cal when he takes those 5 star players and must press to make the tournament. He does less with more than any coach out there. His run here to the E8 was more the players refusing to quit than a sign of his coaching ability.

With all due respect to Josh Richardson, it had nothing to do with race. That is silly. If CCM had come in and picked up right where Pearl left off, continuing the streak of NCAAT appearances and recruiting successes, then even his dry personality would have been forgiven, and certainly the color of his skin would have been as much a non-issue as it was in reality.

I always thought this part was funny. Yes, the "racists" in Knoxville were wanting the black guy out so they could get the Jewish guy back in.
