Cuonzo just made his bed and is betting

Yes, he has made multiple comments about lack of "on court chemistry". He has said off the court is fine, but chemistry on the court took a long time. I talked about this awhile back, Barton missed the 2 weeks before the first game, him being in his first year with these guys that really set things back according to Martin.

I remember comments early in the season regarding the point guard position. Was he was still making those excuses in February?

Sounds kind of like he's blaming the players.

Regardless, if the chemistry is off or his players lack defensive DNA, I hold Martin responsible after three years.

For Tennessee's sake and my mental health, I hope you're right BTO and Tennessee plays better as a team next year and it's not the rebuilding year that I'm afraid it will be.

:hi:

Well, Cuonzo is about to get a contract extension then. He had to battle with one name only and he is now going to be able to parlay this wild card game and get an extension and Cuonzo ball will be a permanent fixture in Knoxville for atleast 3 more years.

Sure the team can be better or atleast just as good defensively. It is just our offense is going to take a major hit as there are no suitable candidates to replace those double doubles or someone to be the primary offensive guy. Our offense will be even worse.

replace what double doubles? stokes? I said my posts are with the assumption he's returning?

I am hoping soneone offers Cuonzo a job and he takes it.

When I think of a rebuilding year, when we've been winning 19-20 games, what're you saying 10-14 wins max?

I think Hart is breathing a huge sigh of relief, makes this offseason much easier for him IMO.

It just kicks the can down the road. This fan base isn't sold on our current coach. Next year, when fans see Auburn improve and Tennessee regress, they are going to melt down.

Doesn't matter. Any new coach not named Pearl is going to have demand a 4 or 5 year deal to coach because they know that results won't happen until year 3 or 4. Martin got talent in here but fell flat like always and needed an end of season run like always. The next coach is going to have major roster problems first 2 years.

Well if TN does regress next year Hart will be in a better position to get a good coach without being blacklisted for firing a coach after 3 years coming off a 20 win season and a NCAA tourney appearance.

In the meantime I'm just going to root for the Vols and hope for the best.

What if auburn doesn't improve?

If our fanbase is constantly going to be enamored with what Pearl is doing then I suggest they just go be auburn fans.

Well it isn't like those fans, which am apart of that wanted Pearl back, supports the players, and hates Martin, are necessarily packing out TBA. Optics wise, it isn't like the crowds would be smaller at the games because they are shrinking anyway.

The crowd that doesn't like Martin already does not go to games. So it's not like they are packing out TBA. I feel that since Pearl is off the market, Martin is safe for the next two years. Which in my mind is completely ludicrous. If we flame out tomorrow, which I will be in attendance, we will be 3 years in with a coach that could never succeed with the same players he had for 3 years. Also will show he is not that good of a coach or recruiter because next year, we have no suitable replacement for Jordan and if Stokes leaves, him either. (My Opinion) I just don't see how Hart is giving Martin next year, which is considered by most to be a rebuilding year, with the product he has developed and molded at the end of year 3.

Not in this league. The league is filled with comparable rosters and busters as head coaches.

And we will continue to have coaches like Martin until we hit the jackpot like Pearl. In my mind, we need to pony up 2.7 million which is double Cuonzo's contract because fans are apathetic to the program and after this year, especially with a loss tomorrow night, a lot of financial support will be trending downward in the areas of season ticket sales and contributions from small and mid level donors.

This fanbase will accept that Bruce is gone once they have someone they feel can compete with him.

Not saying it will happen but if UT hired Gregg Marshall this off season, fans would be all in for that. Pearl would then become a perceived villain to the program instead of its savior.

I don't think Bruce will ever have a sour spot in the majority of the fans here. The old people hate him for what he did, but when you look at his actions, and then the Miami fiasco, history will shine kindly on him. The fact Pearl stayed in Knoxville and was an un-official ambassador for UT will always have people loving him. He does countless things for the community and people will always support him. He is definitely an interesting case, a once in a lifetime circumstance.
