Cuonzo releases Landry

I didn't hear it myself but was told that CCM said on the radio today that at no time were they over the scholarship limit. So does that mean he knew Trae was gone before the Landry situation blew up?

It probably means there were enough fluid situations (McRae, Stokes, Yemi, Golden, & Landry) that he knew one was/would open up.

If u chose to force the issue, u would not get a chance to prove u belong bc u would be sitting on the sidelines fetching water for the other players.

think this is wrong. Would the school/coach be disappointed the kid didnt take the hint? yeah. But these kids have been amongst the best they compete against their whole life. I dont think their competetive nature is going to go away. And how lame would a coach have to be to see a kid progress every day inpractice, and then not give him a chance for playing time too?

Kinda moot tho. Too many options available for most guys. And pride isnt going to allow a player to stay where it has been made clear he really isnt wanted. :peace2:

Why? No player would ever,

If no player ever would then is it really a choice??

Literally yes but practically no.

I keep wondering this:

If he did ask for hearing and he won his appeal and the NLI was forced to be honored, what would happen if all the other scholarship players did the same????

How would the scholarship issue be resolved??

Why would there be a hearing. UT faxed him the papers, he signed them. End of story.

As to the resolution, my guess is, the last person to sign a NLI to put them over the limit (in this case Ndiaye) would have his letter voided.

If you want to believe that

So, in a make or break year for CCM, facing a dire situation with no PG experience, and few options, you really think he'd cut off his nose to spite his face? To prove what?

If you want to believe that...

All students are entitled to a hearing if their scholarship isn't renewed. My assumption is that if Landry had said he was coming anyway martin would have denied that by saying Landry committed something that didn't hold his end of the bargain socially/character wise. Then a hearing would have taken place.

That's a pretty baseless assumption, but I guess anything is possible.

Not sure, but to assert that Martin would fabricate a scenario that suggests Landry fell short of the program's moral guidelines is both ironic, and ridiculous.
Any means necessary! The problem with saying that is ridiculous is you can't give another explaination. There really isn't one and that's the issue

So if Landry told Martin he was coming, and not requesting his LOI the only thing left Martin could do would be to fabricate a story about Landry?

How about parting ways with someone on the team, Edwards and Reese both come to mind as likely targets. If Landry chose to press the issue and come to Tennessee I think you'd have likely seen Edwards leaving the program.

Travon formally requested a release after Martin said he wouldn't be playing. He still had to request he could have come and been a bench warmer if he wanted to.Travon Landry's father on recruitment: 'It's just the nature of the beast' » GoVolsXtra

That's my whole issue--everybody and their brother knew this was coming, but not one person from UT had the guts to tell the kid "we're exploring other options, so you should, too."

Handled poorly by Martin. No two-ways about it.

Would personally have preferred the outcome you type of at the end of your post.

You do realize that getting rid of the one the current players requires some kind of documentation other than just being a bad basketball player to be provided???

You can't just cut a kid on talent alone.

It's obvious that martin decided his remaining players were going to return. Once the decision was made on Landry he wasn't coming under any circumstances.

Quinn's tone throughtout the deal has been telling, too. Hes Not being shy with his opinion of how it played out. If there was any evidence for Zo's defense, Quinn's stories would have read a lot differently.

He Doesn't actually ever have to state his opinion though. He conveys it through particular and deliberate tone, word choice and rhythm.

Say what you will about his beat coverage, but He's a damn good writer.

But you said players don't have a choice really, so if Martin approached one of those guys about transferring what "choice" would they have?

Your last sentence is contradicting...you're saying Landry wasn't coming no matter what. But yet you're also saying Martin can't just cut a player either, so how could he just cut Landry?

It's a dumb discussion because it will never happen but I want to know what would happen if it did.

All players refuse to leave and all win their hearings leaving the program over the scholarship limit.

My guess is the NCAA would allow the extra scholarship for one year but the following year a 2 scholarship penalty.

Just my guess on a dumb hypothetical that peaked my interest

Claim there are character issues/work ethic/social issues that no longer made him a fit at tenn.

Keep in mind the same thing must be done to not renew a scholarship of a current player.

So how did frank Martin just get away with cleaning house at USCjr if you can't just NOT renew a kids scholarship, and there has to be reasoning?
