Barton's really worked out
Hasn't worked out at all. Thought we could get 7 and 4 out of him with some good D. Had no idea the all-time leading 3pt shooter by % at Memphis would come here and be terrified to play or shoot most of the time on the court. He has looked awful and looked like he wanted and/or it was his job to just give the ball up and go the other direction.
Only Martin can F up a player like Barton.
You have to admit, Trae would've helped this team more than Barton. May even have a few more wins if he was still here.
One of the problems Cuonzo will continue to have is the type of players he recruits. Kids who want to shoot and score don't want to play his style of play. He wants the long athletic type who can defend first and if he is lucky get to shoot the ball on occasions. I believe a team needs both, but Cuonzo doesn't seem interested or capable of recruiting a mix of talents that fill a team's needs. The only consistent 3 point shooter on the team is a kid he did not recruit.
What disturbs me most about this is that every player who suddenly gets some minutes regresses with each passing game. Thompson has gotten progressively worse since being inserted into the starting lineup. Armani finally was unleashed, and after a good game or two, he's taken a big step back. Same with Reese. Same with A.J. Young players should be getting better with game experience, not worse.
His release and footwork is terrible. Of course Bto said he is a great shooter and needs no changes, but he hasn't been right in 3 years.
and DT got worse after given the starting job and being coached as a starter. Kid is long and can run and see the floor but is told to walk it up and run away from it.
There isn't a pg around that wants to play in that offense. At least not one with any sense.
His shooting numbers are almost identical to Richardson's freshman year. So I still say he'll be fine. Also, though, I disagree with nearly everything said about Thompson in this thread (except for the shooting, obviously). The offense runs much better with him on the floor; his help defense is excellent; the press actually works fairly well with him out there.

(Bring back Trae)
Richardson also went through at least 2 release changes since his freshman year as well, which is all I have said DT needs to do.
He's also nasty at the top of a 1-3-1, would be great as a press breaker in the middle of the court and sees the floor as well as any pg we have had since CJ Watson, but is not allowed to play ball. Walk it up, pass it, then go to the corner.
Screw Martin and his thought process.
But he can't knock down that jumper consistently which makes any guard (point or shooting) a liability.
Trae also carried the team at times, where Barton hasn't.
doesn't need to if they play aggressive ball, attack the rim and run some damn pick and rolls. He can get to the rim, hit the roller, or kick it to a spot up shooter.
Ballboy for A & M can't shoot and got more good looks in halfcourt at the rim than Mcrae, jrich or DT has had all year combined, and was able to make some nice passes. I think he had several assists.
Out of 26 games, when have we seen CM give his pg's that opportunity? Especially since DT handles the ball well, passes well and sees over they guys guarding him.
CM may call a play late in the clock to give his pg a pick at the key, but the wing player is standing on the wing so there is nowhere to go.
If he wasn't doing it to other teams as well, this would sound like a WR being converted to QB a week b4 playing UT. That didn't turn out well for us either.![]()
Trae didn't make his teammates better and is about to finish his 4 yr career leading teams to Nit and Cit tourneys. So what if he carried the team a few games. Teams he leads don't win. That's all we have to go by. Hypotheticals are fine, but the proof is in the play of the team and results for a pg and neither Trae or CM is a winner on the court.
