One would surely think and hope so. He's not done anything lately, and it's gotten worse. Loyalty to a coach because he won you a national championship as a player 40 years ago only counts for so much.

As far as Louisville, I think they're in it for the long haul with their rebuild with Payne. Also, I'm surprised that Ole Miss looks to be taking the route of hiring Chris Beard. I'd go after a good mid major coach. There's some pretty good ones there, and ones that haven't recently lost their jobs over domestic abuse.

Texas Tech is now in the mix for Beard.

They could hire Beard, a proven P5 quantity, for a mid major price tag with his baggage. Easy decision for a cellar program.

Yesterday was a HUGE day for CBB silly season as to more big time gigs opened up in Syracuse and Texas Tech. Add them to the list with Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Texas. Would be shocked if Georgetown doesn't open up by the weekend.

Associate Head Coach Adrian Autry ’94, one of Boeheim’s former players and longtime assistant, has been named the program’s next head coach.

I think Pitino and Georgetown already have an agreement

I've heard that but you would think he could land a better gig at a place like Texas or several other places. Supposedly he turned down a "big time" program last year. Maybe he just doesn't want that anymore...if your G'town it's a homerun hire for sure.

He wants Big East, that’s his stomping grounds, tons of connections.

Lots of radio talk about Greg Gard could be fired by Badgers.

There are two names I’m going to throw out that I think are likely options, one that is likely not an option anymore and one who just won’t come. Let’s start with the last two.

There’s been a belief for at least a year among fans and people Madison Nate Oats could be brought in to replace Greg Gard. He’s a Wisconsin native, attended school at the University of Wisconsin and spent time coaching at D.III powerhouse UW-Whitewater. His ties to the state run deep and it’d be a homecoming. However, after all the drama with Brandon Miller and Oats’ failure to properly handle it, there’s no shot the people who matter in Madison ever sign off on Oats. You can go ahead and scratch him off the list. For different reasons, Tony Bennett can also be left off the list. At this point, there’s next to no chance he leaves Virginia. Would love to happen. Not going to happen.

That leaves two names: John Beilein and Danny Sprinkle.

Ole Miss would be just be a stepping stone for Chris Beard if he goes there and is successful in a couple of years a bigger and better University would come calling. Wasnt the Georgia coach Mike White a player there if so he would be a good choice he would stay til retire or fired most likely

Unless Oats is just really drawn to the idea of going home, it’s hard for me to see him leaving Bama for Wisconsin. Easier to recruit to Bama and I don’t think Wisconsin can compete with them on money anyway. Bama is still swimming in money thanks to the success of Saban. Plus he’s getting a brand new arena at Bama in a few years.

I think that Georgetown is a great spot for Pitino. It’s theoretically a near or one time blue blood that has somehow fallen to irrelevance. The SEC would be a huge challenge for Texas. The Big East is there for the taking.

I don’t think GTown’s president will sign off on Pitino. Have heard there’s a bit of fighting going on between the boosters that want him and the president. Bet he ends up at St John’s
