Current CBB Coaching Hiring/Firing Thread

Updating the ETSU list from yesterday with some additional names…It sounds like these three should be added: Penny Collins (Head Coach – Tennessee State), Jerrod Calhoun (Head Coach – Youngstown State), and Preston Spradlin (Head Coach – Morehead State). Depends on who you talk to – some say Penny Collins is the leader, some say it’s Wake assistant Brooks Savage. Sounds like this could be wrapped up soon.

It sounds like Chris Beard is getting the old gang back together at Ole Miss. It’s no secret that former Georgia Southern head coach Brian Burg will join the Rebels staff. Now hearing that Al Pinkins will most likely join Beard’s staff as well. Both were with Beard at Texas Tech – Pinkins remained with Mark Adams after Beard departed.

Oregon State’s Wayne Tinkle also got a vote of confidence from his AD. According to Oregon Live, Beavers AD Scott Barnes said “we have a reclamation project that is underway, and I’ve seen growth and development of the players,” Barnes said. “We aren’t where we want to be obviously, but we’re making progress. This isn’t a one-year project. We’re looking forward to the next step and continued growth.”

Pinkins coached at Tennessee and is a solid coach.

If coach Gainey takes High Point job would Barnes look for an offensive coach or go after best available assistant

That really doesn't seem like a move up for him. Wonder if he's feeling some heat in Providence and looking for a restart? He's a Providence native and all his ties are to the northeast. Georgetown is a dumpster fire, right now. Odd move.
I think Cooley feels like he’s a bit limited at Providence, recruiting at Georgetown will be much easier.

Someone posted a tweet by someone over the weekend who said that Cooley's camp believes that Georgetown has a higher ceiling (and maybe easier to recruit to is what I got, too).

He’s feeling zero heat. He brought the program back from the dead. They only had two NCAA appearances in the 15 years prior to Cooley arriving. Georgetown has a higher ceiling and they were paying Ewing nearly double what Cooley was making at Providence.

Don’t recall which thread it was in, but I mentioned Ed Cooley as a good candidate for Georgetown last week. My question was whether he’d move in-conference. Looks like he will.

I don’t think much of Rick Pitino as an individual, but he’s obviously a great coach and the Johnnies getting him sure seems like a home run.

Six year deal for a 70-year old coach. Interesting.
What else is he going to do? Coaches coach. Don’t see Boeheim settling into his shuffleboard playing role after being forced out kicking and screaming either.

Imagine paying a guy $6 million and making him the 3rd highest paid coach in the sport for a coaching career with one total Sweet 16 appearance. I wonder how many times the Georgetown boards will bring up his salary in the first few seasons.
