Heard a bit of interesting info today. Now I don't pretend to be in any kind of loop, but a co-worker of mine 's family is good friends with the families of one of the Duke coaches.

Here is what I was told today. One of the offensive coaches was informed by Cutcliffe to be ready for a possible move to Knoxville. Cutcliffe does believe that Dooley won't be retained after the season. Additionally, he believes that he is A favorite for the job. He will accept if offered. He told the coach that he would bring him along to Knoxville to be the new OC. I really don't wanna reveal the coaches name but with enough digging, a fairly intelligent person can figure out who it is.

I know there will be haters and bashers. Feel free to flame away. I think you'll find that in my time here, I don't make this kind of post. Clearly, only time will tell, but I just wanted to pass along what I was told today.

Honestly I would rather have Cutcliffe than Gruden. Cutcliffe is Proven All Vol and Shows that he can do something with a College Program, Imo. Duke is going to be Bowl Eligible and for a program like that, its a big deal. Also, If Cutcliffe can get his hands on Bray....I can only imagine....

I'm sure Cut may have got feelers from UT but I can't see him being the in the top 3 on the hire list. I like Cut and think a hell of a lot of him, but he's not what I see has the candidate to cause such a big buy out etc. Cut would have been a great transition from Kiffin but I'm not seeing it now.

He succeeded as OC at UT.
He did not succeed as HC at Ole Miss.
He is doing a good job against the ACC at Duke.
No thanks.

I'm not doubting the OP, but one thing piques my curiosity - why would we get rid of our OC? Chaney at times is hard to figure out, but offense is not our problem. In other words, if it's not broke...........

I don't have much of an opinion either way. I see the positives and drawbacks. We could do worse and could do better. I'd personally prefer Strong. I like the analogy to Shula/Saban that someone else drew. Shula righted the ship, but Saban finished the deal. I LOVE Dooley, but am beginnig to agree that he may not be THE guy. I truly feel he has set a hell of a table for the next guy. I think Strong is that tough willed guy like Saban who could push the team to the next level.

Well, why didn't he show interest in the job the first time around? Maybe he just knew he wouldn't get the job and would look like a traitor to the Duke players after trying to leave town on them. Cutcliffe is good and all, but that ship has sailed. He has a decent thing going at Duke. Sure it would be a HUGE promotion for him, but how would the fanbase react? I mean he's from an era gone by

Cut might do a great job back on rockytop, but he wouldn't be the big splash everyone wants. He's a great man and coach but I'm not sold on this bag of goods.

My recollection is that UT offered Cut the HC job before Dooley was hired. Is that true or was it just a rumor?

Cut did have a winning record while at Ole Miss. He is a great offensive coach and knows what kind of DC he would need to compete in the SEC. I would be fine with him being the next coach at Tennessee. I doubt it happens, but would be fine with it.

BS. He had one bad season at Ole Miss, but had four bowl wins, and an over .500 record every season except his last one. Even with that one 4-7 season he still had a higher winning percentage than any coach since John Vaught (including Tubberville), and a much higher winning percentage than any of his successors.

I'm not doubting you. But one thing I feel very strongly about is the fact that Dooley took over a very tough situation. He has brought everything to this program that it needed - except the quality wins. At this point Coach Dooley deserves a pat on the back - and his 5 mill payout - only if we have a guaranteed true winner to replace him. If we don't have that guaranteed true winner to replace him, then we stay the course.

Well one thing for sure. It would be an upgrade from the mess we are currently in. Something tells me if this was true, several coaches have already declined the offer.

I'd love Coach Cut if he brought in a good defensive coaching staff. He knows how to win in the SEC.

He couldn't recruit when he was here, he couldn't recruit at Ole Miss, he couldn't recruit at Duke ..... I see a trend here. Duke is exactly where he needs to be. Good oc though.

Wouldn't that one bad season after Eli graduated? Not bashing...just asking.
