Cutcliffe

The fun part is that the unnamed coach already invited my buddy down for a game (if they end up going to Knoxville). And, subsequently, I was offered a chance to tag along since I'm such a huge Vols fan.

So I guess I am kinda rooting for it to be Cutcliffe. But I still think Strong is the better move.
I respect your opinion but you cannot be serious

The difference in UT and Duke is one schedule is front loaded and the other back loaded. Cut just got pounded by FSU and more is coming. I think he is right where he needs to be.

Cut would be a great hire if our goal is a mediocre 8-9 wins a year and the Outback or Chick-fil-a bowl. He is not the right guy if we want to be a perennial Top-20, top 3 or 4 SEC program that occasionally wins a championship.

Heard a bit of interesting info today. Now I don't pretend to be in any kind of loop, but a co-worker of mine 's family is good friends with the families of one of the Duke coaches.

Here is what I was told today. One of the offensive coaches was informed by Cutcliffe to be ready for a possible move to Knoxville. Cutcliffe does believe that Dooley won't be retained after the season. Additionally, he believes that he is A favorite for the job. He will accept if offered. He told the coach that he would bring him along to Knoxville to be the new OC. I really don't wanna reveal the coaches name but with enough digging, a fairly intelligent person can figure out who it is.

I know there will be haters and bashers. Feel free to flame away. I think you'll find that in my time here, I don't make this kind of post. Clearly, only time will tell, but I just wanted to pass along what I was told today.

Has he been at TN before. I would like this because then he would probably keep Jay Grham. This is the one coach I don't want to loose. Maybe Cut would try to hire Tee Martin too.

Oh how I miss the days of planning on a new years day bowl in Florida. Ahh the Outback, those were the days.

As harsh as that sounds, we are a long way from being there with this staff.

I like Cut but no thanks.

Unless we get a rock solid HOMERUN hire with an entire staff that's really good recruiters then we should keep CDD for another year and let AD Hart see if he can find the real homerun hire for after next season if he thinks CDD still needs to go.

It would be dumb to replace CDD with another CDD.

Coach Cut is nearing the end of his coaching prime. I hope he stays at Duke. He's doing a good job for them.

If we are speculating, I would guess b/c the UTAD was (and in many ways continues to be) a dysfunctional mess and no one who has the kind of options Cut had would willingly get involved with that. Just a guess and MHO.

That, and he wasn't going to come here due to how they handled the Fulmer situation. He has too much respect and all for him to jump on that soon.

Well, why didn't he show interest in the job the first time around? Maybe he just knew he wouldn't get the job and would look like a traitor to the Duke players after trying to leave town on them. Cutcliffe is good and all, but that ship has sailed. He has a decent thing going at Duke. Sure it would be a HUGE promotion for him, but how would the fanbase react? I mean he's from an era gone by

In January of 2010, the News Sentinel went to press at night with the announcement that Cut would be the next coach. Hamilton tried to alter the deal and Cut bailed. For all of you that are against this, try to remember that he has a team with a lot less talent than Vandy, and got them bowl eligible. He took over Ole Miss after probation and three years later got them ten wins. The man can flat out coach and he can hire a staff to recruit.

I do like hiring someone who has ties to Tennessee. Cutcliff and Gruden fit that bill. Fulmer did benefit from two top assistants in Cutcliff and Chavis. I think we should always look for Tennessee ties just like they did with ties to General Neyland. Michigan has the same philosophy when they look for coaches. And last I checked Tennessee and Michigan were at the top of all time leaders in games won by programs.

he didn't succeed at UT with Peyton

and he couldn't recruit at ole miss

That's the stupidest post I've ever seen from you and that's saying something. There are people on this board who would hit their knees to have the "lack of success" we has while Peyton and Cut were here. We were an annual top ten team and beat Bama and Georgia like we owned them.

I would have Cut in my top 5. I think he maybe getting close to retirement so it would not be a bad idea to bring him in to get back some of the traditon we are missing and them him retire and a younger coach take over.

On a side note could you imagine Bray under Cut.

Cut is a great QB/offensive coach. The thing with Bray is he may not start if Cut were here. If a QB is not going to listen and learn....he would not play.
