I see that it’s already been reported that we are the home team but the wording of the rule is throwing me off. “If the 2 teams are different seeds, the better seeded team will be the home team”.

We are both 1 seeds. There were 16 - 1 seeds to start regionals. The way that I read that says it doesn’t matter who the higher rated 1/2/3/4 seed is.

But if a 1 seed is going against a 2/3/4 seed they will be the home team. Or if a 2 seed is going against a 3/4 seed they will be the home team. Otherwise if a 1 seed is playing another 1 seed it will be determined by a coin flip.

It is 10:15 in Omaha. It does give both teams more time before the games on Monday. If they push this to tomorrow, it would probably be very early morning - probably a difference of playing it now while they are up or get up early tomorrow for an early am game.

Baseball players want to play if they are at the park.... never heard one wanting to play later ever

Both VA and FSU were visitors - so the national seeding rule is in play.

The interesting thing is that per the rules, had VA won over NC, VA would have been the home team against the Vols.

The coin toss would not come into play with the first round.

What you are forgetting is that the 16 were seeded in relationship to each other. That is the national seed and what determined which bracket the teams aligned to. It is like basketball, the overall 1 seed is in one bracket the overall 2 seed is in the other etc.

That is correct... UVA would have been home if we played them in either the winners or losers game. IMHO a higher national seed should be rewarded for winning but if they lose all bets are off... plus the ncaa tries to "even things out" with the home and away. Why even bother doing national seeds if there is not some kind of method to the madness. Just do 16 1's and shake 'em out yatzee style.

My magical powers predict N2/R1 kensucky will be the home team vs. N3/R1 aTm but will be the visitor vs. fladuh,,, N10/R1 seed NCSU will be home vs N7/R1 seed aTm or fladuh... prepare to be amazed!
