It makes my argument quite valid. Dale Jr can't get the job done without Tony Eury, no matter which team he's driving for.
Carl Edwards won 9 races last year and has yet to win this year with Bob Osborne. Jeff Gordon won 6 races in 2007 and went winless until Texas this year with Steve Letarte.
What changed with these teams that caused their results to differ so much from season to season?
You may very well be right, Eury Sr. is a great crew chief. I just think that other teams find advantages here and there and the 88 team is struggling to find what works for them.
I don't think Jr. is a top 5 driver by any means but I think NASCAR is very much a team sport and I think he is better than a guy that misses the chase every year. I see no reason why he can't win a race or two every season while he is still fairly young (35).
Who knows, with the chase, if you get in, anything can happen over 10 races.
