First off, for people that know wvu, Holgerson is a hell of a coach. His issue this year had been the travel and the impact on his players there first road game was Texas and they won. They got back late sunday and were not ready for a return trip the follow week. From there it just snowballed. He hates the fact that his closet conference opponent is over 1200 miles away. He also had limited funds to hire a dc. He got outbid by clemson for venables and knows that won't happen at UT.
I was told by a friend who's wife works in the athletic department that hart believes his offense is exciting and can beat bama since Kingsbury is a deciple of Dana's. He also believe Dana can get bray, Patterson, and hunter to stay and Dana is also a hell of recruiter in Texas. He has promised resources to get Dana a solid dc staff. He also has a solid Florida recruiter on his staff in Robert Gillespie.
People are also reporting that Dana is bringing a big time Texas qb Childress that will sit out next year and have three years to play once bray leaves
Not as fast. Streamlined the Air raid stuff. Got rid of mesh. He started adding 21 personnel and a lot of diamond backfield sets. He has made a living off of keeping the box contained with pa. He and Franklin both took the base Air raid/tfs stuff and added quicker tempo and a more concise pass game. His stick/draw and y-cross/screen packages were way ahead of CFB. I'm probably his biggest fan on this board. So, yeah. Agreed on last part.
What's amazing is that everyone's up in arms about Holgerson possibly being hired, yet there's a rumor going around that UT contacted Dabo Swinney, who WVU obliterated last year.
If Hart truly did cancel on Gruden to hire a Swinney/Holgerson type coach then God help him to get out of Knoxville alive.
And for non believers, I setting in the press box at the north end about two rows behind Ollie's group. He has been on his phone and has been called away about five times already. Sounds like hart made contact with Dana's agent and made a sizable offer that was matched late last night, but Dana has rejected it and had decided to go to UT
He was certainly a hot name the first half of the season, but after WVU imploded, there has been no chatter about him at all. I think he'd be a great hire if we game him a fat budget to hire big on the defensive side of the ball. He's got lots of talent to start with.
Get Randy Shannon (currently LB coach at TCU, but one of the best resumes as a DC in CF), and they could do some serious damage in the SEC.
Good God nobody is buying this $hit. He went 7-5 in a mediocre Big 12. His teams are even worse defensively than UT's. Where do people come up with this crap. Its Strong, Fisher, Gundy and maybe Fedora with Strong being the guy.

Didn't he inherit the DC from the previous coaching staff. Also how many of the defensive players that were on the current team do you think he recruited. So I think it is a bit unfair to put his teams inept defense on him at this point. I honestly think he would be a good hire with the right DC. Take the 5 grand we were prepared to give Gruden to hire him AND Randy Shannon and I think we will be just fine. As far as recruiting goes both can recruit FL very well. Holgersen is smart enough to let Shannon do his thing and for him to do his. JMO
I can absolutely confirm this post is 100% bull****.
Im a WVU alum and former student employee in the office of former WVU president David Hardesty. Still have great relationships within the AD, academic wing, and Hardesty family who still reside in Morgantown and very active with the university.
However little tid bit. Contact was made from Arkansas back in October. Nothing much came from it.
As far as wvu travel issues and isolation in the Big 12. That problem will be not existent in the very near future. Keep your eyes on the Big Ten. They aren't stopping at 14.
