Danielson

I have gone back and watched, listened to him and he praises everything about Bama's players. Quick feet, you would think Gibbs ran for 300 yards and we outgunned them on the ground. Then the impeccable decisions of Young, his ability to see all that is going on, over and over. Hooker had a great game, great game. He says a few nice things about Hooker but you would think Bama was ahead by 20 points and Hooker had a mediocre game compared to Young. Sickening. I take nothing from Young or Gibbs, Danielson is awful. You would think he graduated from Bama or was being paid by them. JMHO

I’m sorry, but this is so dumb and makes our fan base look really paranoid.

I watched that entire telecast, and did NOT come away with any such thoughts. I thought it was fair.

Winning changes the narrative, folks. We’ve sucked for 10+ years. What do you expect? Don’t shoot the messengers.

I love the scientific approach to this!!!
Can anyone imagine a post like this on a bama board??? LSU?? Floriduh?
Vol fans are the best!

I was wrong.

I've only watched one quarter, but I think it is already clear my hypothesis was wrong.

Danielson may have been biased in the past, but in this game, he's just a fan of good football.

Here's the count, 15 minutes into the game:

View attachment 503715

Danielson is talking about the two teams equally as often (total 36 comments to 36). He is more critical of the Tide, but that's because the Vols outperformed them in the 1st quarter (the score, 21-7).

I'll keep going, at least to halftime (because Bama comes back in the 2nd qtr, want to see how Danielson shifts with that). But I'm pretty sure I was wrong -- he's not being a Bama homer, at least not this game.

Note: I didn't hear Danielson on Saturday; synced the video on TV with Kesling's radio broadcast. This is my first time hearing the TV crew's coverage. I've been pleasantly surprised.

Note 2: there's no way this experiment's results can reliably be reproduced. Danielson sometimes comments with just a few words, other times in whole paragraphs. In the paragraphs, he may make two or three different points. Some graders might count that all as one big comment, while others break it down and score each point he makes separately. I tended to do the latter. But thinking any two of us would come up with the same table is totally not reasonable.

Sad thing is Gibbs wanted to come to TN and Pruitt wasn’t interested. Much like Butchie with Trevor Lawrence.

Makes it look really paranoid? It is indeed really paranoid, at least a sizeable segment of it. That post and others in this thread just help confirm it.

Gary Danielson wore an orange and blue tie during the Tennessee-Florida game.

Just caught it on the replay. Think he even mentioned “I bet Alabama wished they had Mount Cody for this…haha”. Asshat

Not sure when it was but eventually it got to the point where I asked God to break any curses he was putting on the Vols. It's like he was trying to speak things into existence that were bad for us and good for Bama.

Edit: I also told the Lord I was sorry for asking for something so petty, "but 15 years is a looong time". I think he understood. I mean the sunset WAS Tennessee orange...

wow i didn't even hear that one. think my prayer was after the comment at 2:26:44. although it may have been after the PI penalty that wiped out the interception, it felt to me like Danielson was hoping for a foul during the turn. i just look forward to a fresh voice during our big games in the future.

I am so glad you have straightened me out, told me I am stupid and shouldn't have an opinion that yours is the one that counts.

Bama fans complained he was anti Bama. I never have understood the Damielson hatred. I havent found him biased ahainst TN or pro any other team. Tennessee fans think all announcers should be Big Orange fans. I like Gary's announcing, find him very knowledgeable of football. He had plenty of positive things to say about UT. Honestly, Ive read more negative remarks about this team on this board than from any announcer calling uur games.

I couldn't have said it better.

I actually thought Danielson did a decent job on this game. He's right about Gibbs. That guy has Kamara feet. And, he SHUT UP and let Nessler call the ending, who has a pretty good voice. Vern should have stuck to golf.

I've heard worse from Danielson. Of course, Tennessee taking Bama to the woodshed certainly dampened his Crimson spirits.

Gibbs is good, Bryce is even better, and he said as many good things about Hooker and Hyatt as he did those two.

I would be willing to bet bammer fans are saying the exact opposite of you

Very true, and one look at that obnoxious Bama reddit forum showed just that. They believe that Danielson hates Bama!

I think he knows the game, but in the last several years has fallen in love with his own voice as the 'SEC on CBS' became a thing. I didn't think he was as bad on Saturday, and one reason they have been a little better recently is finally getting Lundquist and his bloated ego out of there and replacing him with a guy in Nessler who simply calls the game. Lundquist made every broadcast about him and Gary, and Gary was happy to oblige. At least with Nessler the focus is on the game.

Amen, brother. Nessler's call of the winning FG should be watched and listened to by every bloviating ESPN broadcaster that can't shut the hell up.

"He got it! ............. And here they come." Just perfect.

Danielson reads off of a screen with information provided by analyst within the network. He's not the Guru you think he is.

Gary was a college and NFL quarterback and his knowledge of what is happening on the field in real time is obvious. He’s good at what he does.

Danielson coverage is for his preferred team, not the game. He's clearly an advocate, not an announcer. He clearly doesn't care for the Vols. Vols fans should lampoon Danielson's bias with signs if he covers a game. Maybe humiliation would make him a more attuned to his situation.
Danielson loves the conference frontrunner, regardless of who it is. Good for business.
