Danny Manning?

If, I repeat, if Bruce is fired what does volnation think of Danny Manning for head coach?

1. I do not know how great of a coach Danny Manning would be. Does Bill Self have any disciples anywhere else doing good things? (Jankovich was doing well at Illinois St. until this season.)

2. If Danny Manning ended up being a good coach at UT, it would only be a matter of time before he returned to KU. UT would not be a destination job for Manning.

I just hope the coach Tn comes up with isnt from San Murray St of the blind.I think they will have to make a wow hire to save the program from sinking anymore than its going to.

As long as Hamilton is the AD, I don't see a big-time coach coming near Knoxville. Of course, that plays into Hamilton's plan since he seems to gravitate toward unheard of and/or unproven coaches anyhow.

What about Tex Winters? We could ruin the triangle offense. Just suggesting a random assistant coach.

Not sure if serious.. but Tex Winter is 89 years old. That would make him 5 years older than JoPa.

I'd love to see them gauge some big name coaches' interest like Pitino (99.9% pipe dream, but he's my favorite coach) and Jay Wright (still probably a pipe dream but more realistic than Pitino). I'd start there and then contact Mike Anderson, Turgeon from A&M, and then go to Gregg Marshall.

The most likely choice is Gregg Marshall, in my opinion.

Why would you or UT want Pitino? I understand he's your favorite coach, but if our goal is to repair our broken image, then he is somewhere next to Billy Gillespie on the list of potential candidates. Can you imagine the PR nightmare that would create through the media? Fire a cheat and a liar and hire another. Pitino cheated on his wife, lied about it, and a media blitz and trial followed that tarnished his image. Coaching and recruiting-wise, I see the draw, but to me, it's a bad time to hire a coach with only a year removed from a scandal himself.

Bill Self is only a few years older than Danny and he ain't leaving Kansas! Im pretty sure I was the first to start chanting his name several months ago.

Self would be part of Larry Browns coaching tree as he was an asst for Larry at KU when Danny played there. Danny also played for LB in the NBA and his dad Ed was an asst under LB for many years.

LB is also interested in coaching again. Maybe as an Associate HC under DM at UT? I know that is a reach!!.

Danny Manning is the best choice! I will continue to believe that.

And while we are on a Kansas theme....... Lou Perkins for AD.

GBO!

NO get a young coach that wants to be here. One that does not have the NCAA looking at them. A Billy D. type(Florida) coach. Someone who can recruit. Because while Calapari is at Kentucky he will get players.

Turgeon is in that same line. Played for LB and with DM at KU. Also under Self as an asst. He would be a good choice too, but DM brings the bigger name. What 5star Big wouldn't want to play under him. Look at what he has done with KUs bigs.......

Morris Twins
Cole Aldrich
Darrell Author
Darnell Jackson
Wayne Simeon

That is 6 NBA bigs in the past 7 years!

None of those guys would come here. You need to set your standards a little lower.

You are crazy if you think Marshall wouldn't jump at the chance to leave Wichita State for Tennessee. This is a top 20 job now. Sure, his first couple years may be tough if we are hit by the NCAA, but to his benefit, he can't be blamed for the team being bad as he gets his feet wet in the SEC. The responsibility will fall on Pearl for that.

The only way he turns down the Tennessee job is if he has feeders out there from his agent that he is on the radar of some bigger/better program that may open up within the next year or so.

You guys should throw a boatload of cash at Pelphrey when he comes available. Otherwise, Marshall is a good choice.

I like the Spoelstra idea, Hopson seems like he'd fit right in with the Heat so those 2 could be great at UT

Agree, but my pipedream coaches are Jamie Dixon, Jay Wright, Sean Miller. Pipdreams, like I said. My #1 realistic targets are Anderson, Grant,Turgeon(maybe realistic), and the Xavier coach whose name I always forget. Big East has plenty of great coaches who may want easier path, doubt it though.that being said, I would be fine with Marshall, he has been viable candidate previous 2 searches.

I seriously hope that you are just kidding and being sarcastic about Lou Perkins for AD. Living in KC, have heard nothing but negative about Perkins and his shady dealings as KU's AD. After all, the ticket scandal fell under his watch. He did not hire Bill Self, so nothing he did at KU impressed me.

Danny Manning will follow the path of other former D-1 and NBA players who are now coaching. He will have to go to a mid-major program and then rise through the ranks.

Danny Manning isn't looking for a head gig. Even if he were, he would be looking to big time gigs. Manning enjoys being a head assistant.
