David Blackburn Resigning at UTC.

So having 1 successful AD in the dept is better than having 2? As I said, make him asst AD. The pecking order is clear. He would either accept the position, or reject it, but the offer should be made.

Loyalties of donor and such would be more toward Blackburn. Dont create a problem where a problem doesnt currently exist.

It could be as simple as this: Dave was not shy in acknowledging that he would've liked to move to Knoxville when we were looking for an AD. UTC leadership undoubtedly took note. Having a guy on board in a key position who you now know for a fact would rather be somewhere else can get under the skin of some. Friction develops. Given a few months, it grows into something that can no longer be ignored. Conversations take place. Folks finally agree things can't go on this way. One agrees to step down, the rest accept. It's mostly all civil, polite, restrained. No screaming or recriminations, just a parting of the ways.

Nothing really shocking in all that, just human nature playing out over time.

Good chance that's all this is.

I would be more inclined to buy that if he had another AD job lined up. Perhaps he does and it just isn't publicly known yet.

I was told by Charlie Anderson during the last AD search that the truth about Blackburn would eventually come out (and why he wasn't hired.) He did not say exactly what it was but I got the hint it was health related.

Might be jjoining the Van Halen farewell tour as a roadie

If David Lee Roth is part of the equation, that is not what I call job security. And it wouldn't be fun. You might have better luck with Axl Rose.

It seems Tony Basilo (i know plenty dislike him) hinted at that too. I hope he is okay.

That would seem foolish of UTC. Clearly they knew he'd jump at an opportunity to be AD at UT if given the chance.

Correct, and UTC is in the same system as UT in Knoxville. He was doing a great job at Chatt, it would be incredibly foolish for those guys to push him/force David's hand in any way. Hopefully, this is all about him taking a bigger, better job/opportunity.

While I agree with this, UTC also has to understand they are a stepping stone for anyone coaching or working there.

I've only spent limited time in ABQ, usually just a day or two stop between catching a flight out west and driving up to SF. It seemed like an okay place in the 80s. I have not been to NM in getting close to 30 years. When I was a kid my dad worked for a Baptist publishing company and his job required us to spend about a month every summer at camp about halfway between SF and Pecos. We had to spend another month at a similar camp near Ashville/Black Mountain NC. A month in the desert and a month in the forest. It was really special. Lots of great memories of NM in the 70s & 80s.

Maybe you just need to focus on writing dirty limericks. If he had been at Auburn, West Virginia, Purdue ect, that makes sense. But he would have left a satellite campus of UT to take a job at the main campus.

If we are playing them on the field or court, nobody wants to beat us more. But to hold a grudge for trying to get the highest paying AD position in the university system? That theory has holes all over it.

I just remembered there were several here that thought he shouldn't have publicly admitted not doing a very good job at UTC while all of that was going on.

Bet this ain't related. Prolly take a year and then push for a more prestigious job. Was stationed in Albuquerque...UNM counts.

Strange for sure, and it has bound to have been a roller coaster ride for him the last few months going from the darling of the UT AD search to out st UTC. Just hope he is ok and things work out for him and his family.

I bet it's not related either. I didn't think it was a big deal when others were saying he was dumb for publicly admitting it. I threw that out there as a theory because I figured it was coming.
