Would you turn down a 3 million dollar raise, the chance to coach in the best conference in the country with some of the best facilities anywhere in front of 100,000 fans just stay at your alma mater?

It's also the toughest conference, cutthroat recruiting among other schools, we're in one of the worst states conference wise for instate talent and a fanbase with very high expectations.

But we also reward failure with huge buyouts.

He's at his alma mater. How would you have felt if Fulmer left UT between 99-01 for another school for more $$$$? Betrayed?

I think Shaw is doing a great job, but I don't think money is the answer for him.

Shaw would be a huge hire. Only problem is, he will not leave Stanford. That's where he played and he is probably at his dream job right now. He might go to the NFL some day, but I don't see him coaching anywhere else in college.

I like how Shaw has coached the past two seasons. He can coach. However, his players are still Harbaugh's players. Do we know for sure that he is a top notch recruiter? Just curious. Not doubting the man, I just want to bring this point up. I'd really like to see him do it for 4-5 years before taking a chance on him with that kind of money.

Truth.

He is still quite a risk, and definitely not a home run as some have suggested. Time is needed to see how good he really is. And therein lies the problem. Even if he were open to coming here, the timing is not right at this point in time for UT. Not with the position we're in.

has anyone mentioned this guy as a potential coach. He has done an amazing job at stanford last two years. They play as hard as any team in college football and dont have near the talent as USC, Oregan and other schools.

Nope...noone has. Not really.

Stanford is a better job to him. All he talked about at clinics was the Stanford job years ago.

He is a great coach at Stanford, learned Harbaugh ball. Smash-mouth football. Has to recruit well since he's bringing kids to Stanford.

And he isn't coming.

David Shaw is great!!! I would love him. Let's make it happen! And Stanford ain't paying him anything.

Too high level for you?

He would be a true homerun hire in my opinion. he has actually coached last 4 years and not set in a booth watching football.

I really like his brand of football! Hard nosed, run it down your throat, pass when necessary offense! Smart, tough, physical defense! Plus despite enormous academic standards, the guy recruits very well! I cannot understand why his name hasn't come up more!

You make a good point. Stanford for all intents and purposes is built like an SEC team.

Yeah, he's a pipe dream, but I think he would be the best hire we could make (ruling out Gruden). He is WAY overachieving with the talent he currently has, is located in area where competition for recruits is brutal, and still brings in good players even with steep academic requirements. Give him UT's resources and he would be a beast. It probably won't happen but I would like to hear other people's opinion on it.
