And that's why it's a weakness. Experience matters. This is CFB at the absolute highest level, if you have an entire position group cutting their teeth, it's not ideal. It's okay to acknowledge weakness.

But go on, I'm sure you and many others will be the first ones calling to fahr CJH the first time the secondary is exposed.
I’m not sure the Mocs can expose it as a weakness. Pretty damn sure, if it will be problematic, the Wolfpack can. I’m waiting to see if the line is affected…

What's your problem lol?

Damn near twenty years at volnation. That can create issues of perception.
😂 I guess I'm programmed to expect the worst. I'm not going to sit here and pretend we replaced and upgraded our entire secondary without seeing it first. I know it's possible, but I've also been watching SEC football long enough to know we will most likely struggle at points. Maybe the offense can overcome it, fingers crossed.

We still have the same coaches… Dont get your hopes up… The called coverage and secondary coaching will be mediocre again.

Call me old, but I miss the 4-3 base defense we ran under Chavis. A lot of teams still run it. Can you imagine Tealander, Pili, and Carter on the field together?
I can imagine it against a 4 wide set and it doesn't seem like a great plan. The style of offense most teams play now a days makes it so you need 4-2-5 or 3-3-5 as your base defense. Teams will also have heavy sets as well, they just won't be used as frequently because you don't want that WR vs linebacker mismatch.

I will take our coaching staff over 99 % of the other coaching staff's in college football. In addition, I am highly impressed with the background of the new coaches we have added this year.

Yeah, I get it. I'm not advocating going back to a 4-3 base defense, just being nostalgic. Oklahoma, LSU, and Ole Miss run the 4-3 and their pass defense was worse than UT's in 2023.

The line will not be impacted by the injury of a secondary player that was not even guaranteed to start

Corner : Ricky Gibson, Jalen McMurray
Corner: Jermod McCoy, Jordan Mathews
Star: Christian Charles or Boo Carter, Christian Harrison
Safety: Jakobe Thomas, Christian Charles or John Slaughter
Safety: Andre Turrentine, William Wright or Christian Charles again, Will Brooks

A lot of guys I like that I can’t imagine playing a huge roll especially early in the year

Examples: Edrees Farooq, Kaleb Beasley, Marcus Goree
How does that stack up at star? Someone said something like Thomas’ injury could end up working out for the team, because Boo Carter would be next up. I don’t ever like that being a public response even if it’s true. But it can be. Take Milton going down and Hooker getting the nod for example.

I don’t know much about Thomas, but we need depth in the form of experience back there, and it seems injuries have plagued us every year either at LB or DB.

@LittleVol

Who do you think will be the starters in secondary game 1? Factor in the loss of Thomas obviously.
Didn’t see this before.

RCB Gibson
LCB McCoy
SS Jakob Thomas
FS Turrentine
STAR Carter

Charles and Slaughter will factor in a safety and star until Carter gets more settled in.

Transfer portal has been crucial for us!

3 starters are transfers. Only 2 HS recruits.

It’s funny that Boo will play against Chattanooga for his first start.
