'20 DC WR Rakim Jarrett (Maryland signee)

I am not a scout, so I can't comment on this kids talent. But my general opinion towards WRs are they're kind of dime a dozen guys. There are obvious exceptions.... but unless a kid just has unreal body control (like Randy Moss, or idk if anyone would remember this name, but Antonio Bryant - former Cowboys draft pick and Biletnikoff winner), or elite quickness (not speed, but quickness and route running) then I just can't get overly amped about a receiver. 90% of their HUDL's look the same.

Idk if this kid has any of those attributes... but he certainly seems like he's going to be a headcase.

I'm sure they are doing their due diligence but if I was a coach, if a kid had "5 star talent" but came off like this kid, I'd pay very close attention towards what his HS QB, guidance counselors, coaches, etc all had to say about how he is as a teammate.

Bryant and Moss, and a lot of top flight receivers, were at points cancers in their locker rooms and screwed with overall team dynamics. Randy Moss was otherworldly so he was almost worth it. Antonio Bryant not so much - although hard to judge a receiver when Quincy Carter is your QB.

Rambling here but gonna go on record as saying I almost couldn't gaf less if this kid was in this class or not. I'm warming up to Calloway as the slot jitterbug type that I hoped Latrell/Jacquez would've been. I really like Capers and hope he ends up here. He and Muhsin Muhammad were the two receivers I had an active interest in being Vols. Anyone else is just a name and I trust the staff largely. I mean, I went from 'wtf' on Jarrod Means to warming up and thinking he could be a handful for defenses in a couple years. Just a big kid with speed.

In a nutshell, I think receivers are the most overrated position in football. Spent years watchng Tony Romo and Peyton Manning and Tom Brady turning slaw into recognizable names. Give me a good QB, good OL, and a creative offensive coordinator and as long as you don't roll out there with stone handed sloths, you can have a very good offense.

One of the IG pages posted all the Visitors this weekend and got a DM from Rakim that said “who said I was visiting lmao” so did VQ lie?

I get that point. In the league though, all of the guys have technique down. So what seems like a slaw receiver in the NFL is actually technically good enough to make a roster and land a starting spot. And in the league, X's and O's are more important than Jimmy's and Joe's because they are all good. So, like you said, get yourself a good o-line and a good QB, with an OC that can dial up the right plays, and a receiver is a dime a dozen unless they are Randy Moss.

Not so much in college. The Jimmy's and Joe's are more important. The talent gap is way wider in college, so we got to have those guys that can shake those corners with sheer skill and athleticism.

i just think it's been a while since we had a real difference maker at WR and we forgot what that really looks like, production wise....and to have a player that a defense absolutely has to account for.....

i think this kid is that kind of player. so are a couple of the other kids we're recruiting at WR.

We've had a lot just not the ability to get them the ball.

Apparently Means is looking like one of those guys and Palmer is slowly transforming into one of those guys. Murphy is coming in on the sly as well.

Who was our last WR that consistently took the top off the defense? Meacham maybe?

Patterson was that guy, but at the time he was here, just wasn't very polished, but he could run, and he made folks look silly as he ran by them.....

Justin Hunter was really good, but difference maker? Josh Malone? eh....

i might have to go back to Stalworth honestly. Marquez North i thought was going to be that guy, but never happened.

meachem was really good, but was he a guy that 'took the top off'? not to my recollection...great route runner, good runner in space and very sure handed.

Justin Hunter’s biggest issue was his hands..... that guy could blaze by guys and then just drop a wide open pass....

He was not our fastest receiver but he always managed to break a tackle in man to man coverage etc and take it to the house.
This is what Palmer should be, similar build and speed. Playing WR still is natural to him, which makes what he did last season so amazing. Palmer may very well explode this season.

Palmer is a blazer for sure. If he can get to breaking a tackle and getting in to open space on the regular he will definitely be elite.

Never seen a team have so much success going deep yet not reach the end zone. Maybe Chaney's offense will free these guys up some.

Yeah I mean the biggest issue again is our guys haven’t been able to break tackles or stay on their feet. (Hence why Pruitt was so mad last year saying how our guys needed to learn how to finish)

Edit: Gotta have that want to

Edit again: Heck that is why Banks got so many carries by the endzone (until he got fumbleitis) he had that drive to score... that want to, he did not want to be denied. (Which he knocked a Florida player out trying to tackle him.... ahh I love that moment)

Anybody who has been to a UT game in the last two years knows that Palmer has great deep threat ability. The guy can run for sure
