:w00t::w00t:eek:uch almost game time ND going down

UMD upsetting Achonwa-less ND wouldn't surprise me at all. That injury makes Alyssa Thomas a very bad matchup for them. And UMD came the closest of anyone all year to beating ND even when they had Achonwa.

(But this is pretty much a silver medal game anyway. Neither would beat UCONN.)

She will probably be riding motorcycles again with Caldwell hopefully she gets some points from someone over the summer. I personally think she needs to go to the 1- four offense which would really open up the driving lanes and also the post pass to Harrison. The players I would suggest if she were listening would be Nared, Tucker, Carter, and Massengale on the perimeter four across and Izzy or Mercedes sharing time in the post. This offense either spreads the defense which creates drives to the basket or if the pack the paint wide open shots from the perimeter.
The 3-2 is fine if you have great passers we don't have any.

Basketball Offense - 1-4 High Stack Offense, Coach's Clipboard Playbook

Just follow these instructions. The players I suggest would flourish in this offense.

They need a solidly built 4, or one with height. Ideally, Mercedes comes in with massive improvements and starts at C with Izzy at the 4. Izzy has a face up game, she's mobile, has a quick first step, and can hit the 10-12 foot jumper with some regularity. She would flourish at the high post instead of getting beat up by true 5s with 20 lbs on her.

If this comes to fruition, I like Carter, Massengale, Tucker, Harrison and Russell. You got 2 solid ball handlers, 2 solid 3-pt shooters, a good size from 3 to 5. They can move Harrison to the 5 and put in Graves at the 4 if they want more athleticism/speed, and sub Reynolds for Carter if they want more size. That leaves Middleton, Nared, Dunbar, Moore and Burdick on the bench as options if needed. Adding A'ja Wilson to the mix would put them up there with UConn.

Not so..CPS was good but new Sheriff in town...
Teams are stronger ,better ,smarter,I like CPS but back then you didn't have the teams and the great players you do now..Women basket ball was like a dirty word ,no one even heard of it really. Then along came Geno Auriemma
and they played TENN ,things really got heated up,sundely women basketball got the attenion it deserved. To say Warlock already learned from the best coach in the history of the sport.is just plane wrong....IMO GENO right on top..NOw going for number 9,match his bio and you might change your mind.YES CPS was good, very good for her time,no one can say she wasn't the greastest ,,,But new Sheriff in town.

Auriemma holds the following records and achievements for NCAA basketball:

Highest winning percentage among active coaches, men's or women's (.863)
Most NCAA Division I women's championships as a coach (8, tied with Pat Summitt)
With men's coach Jim Calhoun, the only coaches at the same school to win men's and women's NCAA Final Fours in the same season
Coached four of the seven undefeated seasons in NCAA women's college basketball (1994–95, 2002–03, 2008–09, 2009–10)
Most consecutive trips to the Final Four, women's (6, 2008–2013) (The men's record is 9 held by John Wooden of UCLA)
Fastest women's coach to 500 wins, 600 wins, 700 wins, and 800 wins
Fastest coach to 800 wins, any level, men's or women's
Most consecutive wins, men's or women's (90, 2008–10)
Largest margin of victory in a Division I NCAA tournament final (93–60 v. Louisville, 2013)
The win streak of 90 games was bookended by losses to Stanford on April 6, 2008, and December 30, 2010. Among women's teams, the previous record was Auriemma's Huskies teams of 2001 to 2003, who won 70 straight.

You make it sound like Pat won all those championships "way back then"! You do realize that she and Geno were basically contemporaries don't you? She won her 8 in the 24 years dating back to 1987; Geno won his 8 in the 19 years dating back to 1995. So for the most part they won their championships during the same "era" of women's basketball.

Now Pat did do one BIG thing that has hurt Tennessee's women's basketball very badly. She pitched her hissy fit and quit playing Connecticut when she was convinced that Geno was doing some underhanded recruiting. That one decision has hurt Tennessee's recruiting terribly ever since. Mercedes Russell this past year was a rare exception, but Geno is getting all the high school talent he wants. If Holly wants to get Tennesse women back to a dominating force they once were, she MUST reinstate the series with Connecticut. If Geno wants to continue to dominate, he will not have any of it. This would relegate Tennessee to average contender status for years to come.

is pretty in the Spring. Go there, visit with the Wisconsin men's coach, Bo Ryan. Pick his brain, watch LOTS of tape of his team playing offense. He is a very good coach. See the players moving, see the ball moving--quickly, see patience and good decision-making while the ball is being moved around crisply. See the teamwork and the chemistry. Hire a coach who knowns and understands team offense. Work to emulate the Wisconsin offense (also used by UVA and many others teams) and stop running the bad offense UT has been running for 20 years. Throwing the ball to one or two of your better players and hoping they can score is not a good offense. Nor is falling into a panic mode after 5 passes. Send us a postcard from Madison!

Dear armchair,

Please stop writing letters to the coaches of any sport.

Sincerely,

The majority of Tennessee fans

I agree with OP's assessment. For the past few years UT has fallen in love with 'athletes' who can run the floor and jack it up, but the mental aspect of the game has taken a big hit. Give me some more Kara Lawsons, Kelley Jolleys, Shanna Zolmans, Sydney Spencers, and Candace Parkers who can think and plan out some plays. Meghan Simmons just wore me out with her erratic play. Selfishness needs to go, teamwork needs to return.

I really liked the last part of this post. Outside of Tennessee and Connecticut I think the average fan looked at the whole episode and thought Tennessee looked ridiculous.

Really never liked Geno because of the stories I heard he of how he would talk bad about Pat and the program. That's why Pat really never liked Geno and she stopped the series.

And for Warlick people need to relax, It took some disappointing losses until Pat finally got her first Championship. I think Holly will be just fine.

Holly can't be friends with the players period. She acts like a teenager with a crush so she can't get after them. Find some older friends Holly and become a real coach.

Geno will cut your heart out and show it to you.
You may not like him, but UT could not stay on the Court with UConn in its present state. ND, UConn and a dozen other teams are light years ahead of the Lady Vols in talent, speed and ball play.
You can let them pee on you leg and tell you its raining if you want! If Coach Holly is not replaced, it will NOT turn around!!! :hi:

As I watched the N Dame and Maryland I could only say to myself now this is good coaching they shut down Thomas which she had her way with Tennessee. The players where coached and that is what it takes to win championships.

I would have liked to see Mercedes at the five and Harrison at the four later in the season. Hopefully it happens next season. Determining what type of player Mercedes will be will all be determined next season. The biggest improvement of any player is usually freshmen to sophomore. We need her to take the same leap that Harrison took.

A few of Tn. Girls do not have basketball eyes. They just do not seem to see the floor well. There are eye training programs to strength the eye muscle. They all should enroll. Did you notice the few turnovers for ND and CT

:hmm:I agree Pat Summitt was the greatest for her time ,but you have to realize that seventy five percent of the college teams these days are much better in womens BBK,now more than ever. There are no more just show up you've won the game. Yes "Times are a changing".
