Death and Black Metal

those guys are truly insane lol.

In 1990, the members of mayhem moved to "an old house in the forest" near oslo.[8] they began writing songs for their next album, de mysteriis dom sathanas. On 8 april 1991, dead committed suicide in the house owned by the band. He was found by euronymous with slit wrists and a shotgun wound to the head. Dead's suicide note notably read "excuse all the blood, cheers." and included an apology for firing the weapon indoors. Instead of calling the police, euronymous went to a nearby store and bought a disposable camera to photograph the corpse, after re-arranging some items.[9] one of these photographs was later stolen and used as the cover of a bootleg live album dawn of the black hearts.[10] rumors later surfaced that euronymous made a stew with pieces of dead's brain, and made necklaces with fragments of dead's skull which he gave to musicians he deemed worthy.

wtf?!?

That's a pretty good cover. The band that he's playing the cover of is Daath, and they are awesome.

I don't really care for most black metal, but I do enjoy Immortal, Enslaved, and Windir.

For death metal I dig Carcass, Impaled, Vital Remains, and old school Sentenced.

Hell Yeah his leg speed is SICK. My damn Calves cramp up watching him lol. His control is very smooth and controlled also. I can't believe I have never heard of him. No BS he is the Real Deal.

He is legit. Speed is insane.

Alex is actually really good friends with the guys from Daath, the guitarist actually wears a "Deliver Us From Evil" shirt on stage when he plays from time to time. Alex actually has the best job in the biz, when not touring with his band he tours with bands like Daath, Lamb of God and even toured with Metallica once shooting their photos for metal magazines. Below is a write up from MetalSucks.com that explains it.

Whether you realize it or not, you’re probably already familiar with the band’s drummer, Alex Morgan; he’s a talented and successful photographer who has worked with Gojira and Daath, amongst others. (Check out his work at his official website, or with this MS post or this MS post, or just look about an inch up on this post.) Which makes it all the more baffling to me that Deliver Us From Evil are unsigned; they’re like eight million times better than half the bands publicists and label reps send us every day.

The new Carcass has some cool moments, but it just seems to be lacking something. I think it hurts a bit by not having Ken in the drums even though the new guy is great.

Sepultura.

I'd say Pantera but they are straight mainstream compared to others listed in this thread.

Used to listen to a lot more than I do now. I liked underoath before they changed their whole lineup, define the great line was probably their best record. Also really like Norma Jean and as I lay dying but they are kinda mellow compared to most of the bands mentioned here.

If you've never listened to the album "Nemesis Divina" by Satyricon, please go listen immediately. The riffing on that record will rip your face off.

Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious is Carcass' best work IMO.

Corporal Jigsore Quandry is a classic song.

the closest I've ever gotten to death metal is Opeth (BWP & Still Life).

But I'll probably start buying some of Death's stuff, they seem to reign supreme in the genre, or at least RYM seems to think so.
