Funny how the Trump/Putin thread junkies are salivating over the Manafort flip - the flip that is more likely is this guy and his wife on DWS and the DNC. Hard to imagine she's agreed to come back to the States if there isn't some deal or value.

Espionage is a stretch for DWS but not Awan. This latest revelation about the laptop bag in the phone booth is almost as if someone put a bow on a gift. Strange as hell indeed.

It's her computer and she's now trying to claim congressional privelages to keep police from examining it as well as saying it isn't her computer. She's potentially in deep doo doo.

Police grew suspicious and requested a copy of the server early this year, but they were provided with an elaborate falsified image designed to hide the massive violations. The falsified image is what ultimately triggered their ban from the House network Feb. 2, according to a senior House official with direct knowledge of the investigation.

The secret server was connected to the House Democratic Caucus, an organization chaired by then-Rep. Xavier Becerra. Police informed Becerra that the server was the subject of an investigation and requested a copy of it. Authorities considered the false image they received to be interference in a criminal investigation, the senior official said.

Data was also backed up to Dropbox in huge quantities, the official said. Congressional offices are prohibited from using Dropbox, so an unofficial account was used, meaning Awan could have still had access to the data even though he was banned from the congressional network.

Awan had access to all emails and office computer files of 45 members of Congress who are listed below. Fear among members that Awan could release embarrassing information if they cooperated with prosecutors could explain why the Democrats have refused to acknowledge the cybersecurity breach publicly or criticize the suspects.

On Jan. 24, 2017, Becerra vacated his congressional seat to become California’s attorney general. “He wanted to wipe his server, and we brought to his attention it was under investigation. The light-off was we asked for an image of the server, and they deliberately turned over a fake server,” the senior official said.

“They were using the House Democratic Caucus as their central service warehouse … It was a breach. The data was completely out of [the members’] possession. Does it mean it was sold to the Russians? I don’t know,” the senior official said.

Capitol Police considered the image a sign that the Awans knew exactly what they were doing and were going to great lengths to try to cover it up

Theoretically it could be many sources.

Assange has categorically denied his source was the Russians. Awan makes sense as an alternative.

In addition, he could have sold to the Russians or the Russians could have hacked him.

Another option is that the Russians may have hacked the DNC but what they got is not what we saw from Wikileaks - we really don't know what the Russians had; just what Wikileaks/Guccifer released. Could be these were independent sets of information.

I think he's getting a plea deal and she's part of it.

In the Trump/Putingate thread Carlos is all over how Manafort is going to flip on Trump. Problem there is we don't know if there's anything to flip about.

Here we are seeing this guy is a CYA champ and kept all sorts of information available for leverage. If he flips there's a potential big prize.

Don't forget, it looks like he planted the DWS laptop for cops to find.

I doubt that team trump had anything to do with it but it's possible. It would be more plausible if some group that don't like the Democrats like Republican backers paid him.

I Don't think the Trump campaign could orchestrate this.

no - on what the DNC (of some of the Congressional members) may have been hiding or actions they took.

You have to question why DWS would have 1) kept him on until arrested and 2) fought so hard to shield the files from the cops if this was not about misbehavior from the DNC or D Congressional members.

Just saying that there's a reason DWS is fighting this so hard and a reason the wife is coming back to the states.

Must be something in there though I have no idea what it is and I'm not making any specific accusations.

We shall see if anything comes of it. Could be nothing at all.

Actually you did

That is your focus not that all indications point that Awan stole Democrat's emails and information and it just so happen that a bunch of emails found their way to WikiLeaks (maybe not from him but looking that way). He probably didn't read any of them. It was an information grab to be sold to the highest bidder or he was working for someone. Putin has deep pockets and a cyber army.

Still many unanswered questions from the information at hand but hoping that it leads to dirt on Democrats is weak.
