Debt Limit Bottom Line

Think the bill sucks.

I think (hope) the rebs stick a bba on to it and send it back on up. Then if it passes I'm fine.

Pavlov....two stimulus plans and a debt raising...tail has figured out just how to wag the dog...

Then when things don't get any better, just talk about how bad they would have been.

The spending "cuts" in the bill aren't cuts to the current budget at all. They're just reductions in the rate of spending growth. The baseline being used is one in which spending increases 7-8% each year. It's full of crap and won't do anything to solve the real problem, which isn't the debt ceiling, but the debt itself.

The AAA credit rating is as good as gone.

Should be gone. Purse strings are in the hands of career politicians using vote buying as means of reelection.

And there has been little real discussion or transparency on the rating....change my ass.

I wonder what the world's reaction would be if asked "Is the US serious about handling it's financial problems."

Looks pretty obvious to me.

amazing how, 15 years later, reductions in the rate of growth are still being considered "cuts". During the Clinton administration, the reductions proposed by Newt and co. were decried as "draconian".

Glad I covered my shorts last Friday. What to me is more of a issue now is GROWTH, we need growth and everything would be alot better. Still not so sure about this bill yet.

so no real cuts, no tax increases and the limit gets raised anyway? Wow, glad they worked so hard to accomplish nothing

It ain't a done deal yet - TPr's and libs in the House are against it. However, if the House doesn't go along it will be blamed on the TPr's rather than the liberal coalition that vowed to vote against it.

Completely insane.

So, w this deal, we add $7.5 trillion to the debt in the next 10 years as opposed to $10 trillion.

I would just as soon see the House fail to pass this, forcing a short-term extension (like a month). Keep this insanity in the forefront of the political debate.

I would too except for the political pov of most of the mass media outlets. If you look at public opinion polls about debt, taxes, spending, and fiscal control... the TP is absolutely mainstream. If you see a public opinion poll about the "Tea Party" approval... you'll see them in the 30-40% range.

The first reaction of the left was to think that they were radicals on budgetary issues. If you remember, that was their first vane of attack after trying unsuccessfully to ignore and dismiss the movement. They quickly realized a problem... the TP was very mainstream on gov't spending/taxation issues. Attacking their fiscal positions was just making them stronger. So they turned to what amounts to false propaganda. They have accentuated the non-economic issues since many of these dedicated fiscal conservatives were also social traditionalists. They have used "words" like "extremists" as well as the worn out liberal lies about throwing grandma out into the street.

In short, the polling data proves that they have been very effective in demonizing the TP with false propaganda.

If this continues on... the TP will be 100% in the right. But the American people will never hear their case with clarity through the media. Ask yourself, has even Fox and other supposed conservative outlets majored on the fact that there are no real cuts in any of these proposals? In the meantime, every form of left wing demagogury known will get repeated.

Unless the TP is willing to rachet up a public marketing campaign to directly explain their side of things... they won't win the PR battle if this continues.

Cavuto on Greta was pretty emphatic about there being no real cuts. But, you are absolutely right, the majority of the MSM is painting this as a huge win for Boehner/R's. "Boehner got 98% of what he wanted," etc.

I personally hope they modify this bill and place a BBA in it. Not a future up and down vote but an actual BBA.

Send it back to the Senate and make it clear we are done here.

I think they should send it then take up debate on the BBA as a clean bill. It is a huge winning issue for conservatives. There is a risk it will be tanked by attaching it to this unpopular deal.

FTR, the GOP should take a hard line and carry the BBA debate into the next election unless Dems capitulate completely. The Dems will most likely demand automatic tax triggers in a BBA and will refuse the super-majority language on tax increases. They can't win the debate in front of the American public on those terms.

They are voting now, it doesnt look good to pass..2 mins to go. nvm..it passed..234 yeas 216 needed.

Ended with 265. Dems evenly split; Reps 2/3s for.

Pretty special and truly amazing that Rep. Giffords was in attendance.

Yup, I noticed when she came in and voted for the bill the Dems followed behind her. Special moment no doubt.
