Dec. 1 Coaches Poll - Vols 6th

80-90% the Big Ten fans I know up here are CONVINCED the SEC is either down or sucks bad this year and that the Big Ten is going to mop up with them and I’m not exaggerating.

They’re all up here hoping that the first round is all Big’s vs SEC so they can show they’re better while down south everyone is saying the opposite.

Soooo I think the committee should give everyone what they want 😈

Makes it a lot of fun being one of a handful surrounded by Big Ten fans.

I will say there’s a handful of people up here warning loudly “the SEC’s recruiting hasn’t changed. Either they’re down or they’re all good and beating each other up. And history says the latter.”

I am very confident the majority are in for ANOTHER rude awakening.

It happens…

Every

Year
There are exceptions to ever rule. My F-I-L is a nega-Buck who says Tennessee could play their second string and beat Ohio State in the Shoe, because Ryan Day can’t win big games. 😂

Not how the CFP works. Vols would be the 8th seed hosting Ohio St.
But if you don't know how the seeding works then I'm not the one to explain it to you.
Correct.

Of course this isn't the CFP rankings, but let's say that it is for a second.

What happens to UGA and PSU if they lose the championship game? I think we pass UGA and possibly PSU.

Ranked 6th and seeded 6th is not the same thing.

Two teams ranked below us will be seeded higher as AQ’s, with a bye.
Good thing I was talking about seeding, not ranking, then.

#1 Oregon beats #3 Penn State--PSU is gonna fall some. Quite likely below us.
#2 Texas beats #5 UGa--UGa is gonna fall some. Almost certainly below us.

Post-conference championships, the ranking (not seeding) is now:
#1 Oregon
#2 Texas
#3 Notre Dame
#4 Tennessee
#5 PSU or UGa
#6 UGa or PSU

So Oregon gets #1 seed, Texas gets #2, two other conference champs get teleported into the 3rd and 4th seeds, then Notre Dame gets #5, and we get #6 seed. UGa and PSU are #7 and #8, in either order.

As I said originally. we're the #6 seed if CFP follows the Coaches Poll.

It's okay, I explained how it works.

Trying to help him is like trying to teach Mister Maggoo how to figure skate.

I musta peed in your Wheaties at some point. You never have anything but snark for me, and can't even do it directly. I'm sorry I hurt you so bad, but more sorry I don't remember doing it.

Go Vols!

That's a #6 seed for Tennessee, right there.

If the CFP Committee agrees with the Coaches Poll, we're the #6 seed, playing whoever the #11 seed becomes.
Wish it worked this way.

That’s how it should work, but Boise and the ACC champ will be 3 and 4 thanks to auto-byes, knocking us down to 8. Fine by me though.

Notre Dame should replace a non-power 5 auto bid, only they should not be eligible for the bye since they do not compete in a conference.

Good news, friend. That's how it _does_ work. See post #28.

Go Vols!

I really don't see how any unbiased person could watch USCjr. and Bama right now and come away with the opinion that Bama is the better team.
Honestly, SC scares me, but they are playing better football than Bama is right now.

No one knows where the Vols will be ranked in the poll that will be released on Tuesday. OSU will drop - they should drop like everyone else who has lost to an unranked team drops. The drop should also mirror what happens to Miami and should be easily 6-8 spots. Tennessee dropped 4 for losing to a RANKED Georgia. Indiana dropped 5 for losing to OSU.

The committee may just drop them 5 spots to 7 and if they do that to maintain a "hosting spot for OSU" - the committee is not treating them like they have treated other teams who LOST to UNRANKED teams. They are treating them like the lost to a RANKED team on the road which is not what happened. They lost to an UNRANKED team AT HOME.

They should drop to 8 or 9.

Dropping 6 spots seems reasonable to me

Unfortunately this doesn't mean the Committee will have any sense.

We see if the committee is biased towards the B1G or not this week and has an agenda related to that conference. OSU should drop below Tennessee and maybe even SMU and land right before Indiana.

I do not and would not take Georgia and Penn State falling behind us with losses as a certainty.

I do agree with you there, they are playing better ball than any of the potential last teams in (and better than many of the shoo ins to make it as well)
If there was anything to our SEC commissioner, he would be campaigning to get the committee to rank SC over Bama, instead of trying to protect one of the blue bloods of college football.

Negative. If the committee agrees they’ll still put a conference champ ahead of us (Boise and SMU)

The top 4 conference champs get the top 4 seeds and byes.

They will be ranked as the committee deems them to be ranked and must be in order to select them correctly in the seeding.

Neither of those teams will jump Tennessee in the "ranking itself" and it wouldn't matter if they did as they get will their seeds if they win anyway.
