Dec. 1 Coaches Poll - Vols 6th

Hoping this and the AP has us above Ohio state and helps convince the CFP committee we should be ahead of them. That would basically guarantee us a home game

Yes - it would make it hard for them to defend OSU higher than Tennessee.

I do not and would not take Georgia and Penn State falling behind us with losses as a certainty.
Agreed, I think an 11-2 PSU team would likely stay above us. That's a "safe" play by the Committee. But I also think a 10-3 Georgia team will be below us.

Regardless, if PSU and UGA both lost there is more momentum for TN to be hosting than visiting, especially combined with where OSU got put in the recent AP and Coaches polls.

I'm guessing that the only thing that can take us from #8 in playoffs to #7 would be PSU getting throttled by Oregon possibly? Also, I'm pretty certain NCAA will sneak Bama in, but just not sure how. SMU probably doesn't get bounced if they lose to Clemson, but if SMU wins ACC, I'm guessing that's their path to #12? In which case, the enviable #5 spot may not end up being so great for ND?

SMU would be a top 4 seed as ACC Champ

Good thing I was talking about seeding, not ranking, then.

#1 Oregon beats #3 Penn State--PSU is gonna fall some. Quite likely below us.
#2 Texas beats #5 UGa--UGa is gonna fall some. Almost certainly below us.

Post-conference championships, the ranking (not seeding) is now:
#1 Oregon
#2 Texas
#3 Notre Dame
#4 Tennessee
#5 PSU or UGa
#6 UGa or PSU

So Oregon gets #1 seed, Texas gets #2, two other conference champs get teleported into the 3rd and 4th seeds, then Notre Dame gets #5, and we get #6 seed. UGa and PSU are #7 and #8, in either order.

As I said originally. we're the #6 seed if CFP follows the Coaches Poll.

It's okay, I explained how it works.

I musta peed in your Wheaties at some point. You never have anything but snark for me, and can't even do it directly. I'm sorry I hurt you so bad, but more sorry I don't remember doing it.

Go Vols!
I’m with you.

Except I think we get in front of one but not both. Best bet is UGA slides two or three spots losing to Texas gets us to the seven seed and hosting Indiana. If that happened would probably be the best draw we could hope for.

Also if both Texas and Oregon lose then we have a different story. Oregon would stay in front of us and Texas might also. So in that scenario we could be stuck in the 8th seed. It really does depend on what happens with those CC games.

Of course this all assumes the committee doesn’t dick us with the Ohio St ranking Tuesday night.

I am worried about our players' tendency to not use enough self-control and draw stupid dead ball fouls. Against a team like tOSU penalties will be a strong deciding factor. Our guys don't play with enough discipline. They have 3 weeks to focus better.

We are ranked #130 in penalties per game, and #122 in penalty yards with 69.7 yds/gm.
Every team in the playoff will make our team regret each penalty, especially an elite team like tOSU. Make no mistake. They are as good as any team in the nation. Their team talent composite is within the margin of error of both Bama and UGA. It will take our best game of the season to beat them.

It's going to be Bama, Miami, and SC jr fighting for the last spot IMO

This is simply a matter of good coaching.
Any player that does this should have to sit with his head coach, coordinator, and position coach and explain what he was thinking while they show him the video.
Then they calmly explain how much that kind of thing could hurt the team. Playing out of control emotionally is no good.

Remember when Tenn dropped like 3 or 4 spots for barely beating Florida? Georgia doesn't drop at all.

I don't suspect either the B1G or tOSU will volunteer a meaningful disciplinary action against those players.
I said “if” which is admittedly a big if

But you know if it had been Tennessee player acting like that the entire sports media would be tearing their hair out demanding suspensions if not outright dismissals

It was generally accepted that if Tennessee lost to Vandy, they would be out of the playoff picture. If that had happened, Vols would be 9-3, same as Alabama, with a win over Alabama. My question is this. Why is Alabama even in the conversation now? If Tennessee would have been out on three losses, why isn't Alabama out?.

That’s how it should work, but Boise and the ACC champ will be 3 and 4 thanks to auto-byes, knocking us down to 8. Fine by me though.

Not that it changes the fact 4 conference champions but it could get even Wilder if UNLV knocks off Boise. Would they let Boise stay in at 12 as between UNLV and the Big12 champion you have to think the Big12 winner would be higher and get that bid. Not one team in the field would be scared of either Iowa St or Arizona state once they got finished with first round.

The Power 4 conferences aren’t guaranteed the top 4 seeds, so ACC champ will have to be ranked above both Boise and the Big12 champ to get a bye. That is the most likely scenario, but again not guaranteed, and will not be an issue for the ACC if the champ isn’t SMU.

No they won’t. SMU just had to be the ACC Champ. They aren’t gonna win the ACC title AND somehow be ranked behind the Big 12 winner.

And if they do win the ACC they will be ranked ahead of Boise anyways.

The highest 4 ranked conference champs get the top 4 seeds. SMU doesn’t have to be anything but ACC Champ. Boise and Big 12 winner are irrelevant to SMU securing a bye

We dropped that week for two reasons:
1. We looked lethargic against a terrible team (at the time) for 3/4 of the game and had to go to overtime to beat them at home.
2. The three teams ranked right behind us looked impressive that same day and passed us the next day.

This anti-Vols narrative is getting out of hand. There’s no bias against us, it’s all self-manufactured by fans when things don’t go their way. Same with every school.
