Decision on number of conference games (2016 and beyond) to come by spring meetings

I think those involved with GT athletics would jump at the chance to join the SEC again. LOTS more money than being a member of the ACC!

Those in the athletic department aren't the ones that make the decision here. It's the school's board and chancellor/president.

And no they wouldn't. They pretty much left this conference and slammed the door on the way out. Not only that, but adding would them not serve this conference's current goals in expansion.

(I also hate to bring this point in, also...but I'm going to anyways: I'm also not sure it's something they (GT) would want either...those top of the top powers-that-be at that school absolutely love the image (and grants, research money, etc) their university has from being associated with ACC schools (like UNC, Duke, UVA, etc)...they might take a move to the Big 10 were such an offer extended, but our conference likely wouldn't be an option unless they were looking at no conference at all as the second option)

Baylor has become a very good program lately.

Expansion, though, has had almost nothing to do with "how have they done now/lately/last season;" these are long term moves, ones whose main factors are much more than that.

If it were just recent on the field success, Boise State would have ended up in the PAC-12 or Big 12 by now, rather than being relegated to returning back to the Mountain West Conference after they announced they were leaving it.

Realistically who that the SEC would want would actually say yes? I can't think of anyone.

At this moment, no one unless the ACC or Big 12 fell apart. And barring either a complete conference dissolving or a court ruling in favor of Maryland's countersuit that the conference grant of rights is an antitrust activity (i.e. illegal), each conference's grant of rights should stop such from happening until around at least 2025 or 2026 at earliest.

Well I don't see the ACC going anywhere anytime soon. Probably not the Big 12 either. So basically to expand anytime soon they would have to what, raid a mid major? That doesn't seem likely or worthwhile.

They'd never go after a mid-major any time soon.

Pretty much I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

They'd need to wait until one of the grants of rights expired or was somehow made null.

Then I guess they'd have to either hope one of the schools in a desired market area was interested in leaving to join the conference or possibly woo one of them prior to their leaving the conference (and hope legally they don't get caught/leave a trail).

So pretty much nothing is likely to happen for quite a while. Once the football schools from the old Big East stabilize that will be the new status quo I guess. That is unless the the SEC decided to go after Louisville or another Old Big East football school before they officially join their new conferences. I doubt that happens.
