Why spend the money to travel? Why risk injury? Not worth it for a pathetic tourney. LETS FIGHT TO BE THE 69TH BEST TEAM IN THE COUNTRY!

Should we have forfeited the Vanderbilt and South Carolina and Miss State football games last year because we couldn't win a national championship anymore? I mean, why spend the money to travel? Why risk injury?

even a possibility? Traveling to play a sucky team in a tournament that doesn't matter. I've heard arkansas, the ville and georgetown has. I'm sure more has but i haven't really researched it. Would be awesome if tennessee did. Would anyone be upset if tennessee did?

Decline and hopefully that will motivate the players to get better. Plus it will show that we (fans) are getting tired of this, even though we still love UT.

Football is different than Basketball. There is pride in making and winning bowl games, while the NIT should be a joke for UT.

But if you really want to know, I rooted for UT to TANK after the Miss. St loss.. just to ensure a foot up Dooley's ass. Now we are much better off then if we got hot late and keep that pathetic coach.

And I agree with a lot of the points said here.. The players don't care, the fans don't care. If we lose early, it will be disastrous. We have a lot to lose with only a little bit to gain. Decline that ****.

The only reason I would want us to play would be for the Seniors. If they want to play, by all means play it. They deserve that at least.

Losing 1st round vs winning will have same impact imo...zero.

There's pride in winning some bowl games but there are plenty of garbage bowl games where winning them means pretty much nothing. Who cares if you win the GMAC Bowl?

NASHVILLE — If an NCAA Tournament bid is not extended Sunday, Kentucky would be obligated to accept an invitation to play in the National Invitation Tournament.
C.M. Newton, a former UK director of athletics and a member of the NIT Selection Committee, said that schools must decide how they feel about playing in the NIT long before Selection Sunday.
"The rule is, if they turn down (the NIT), they turn it down at the start of the year," Newton said Saturday.
All Southeastern Conference teams have agreed to play in the NIT if they get passed over by the NCAA Tournament, Newton said before adding, "Quite frankly, I don't know of any school" that has declared it will not play in the NIT.
When asked if teams were obligated to play in the NIT, Newton said, "Yeah. Unless they let you know (otherwise at the beginning of the season)."

Stupid idea.

Be careful Yankee, I got called a moron for that. If you don't agree with punitive punishment of the team for playing their guts out down the stretch, you will get lambasted.

And in answer to the OP: SIR, you didn't ask a question, YOU posed a preference for punishing a team that played hard the 2nd half and was a couple of points away from a really good season. The teams that decline the NIT generally do so because of some sort of team violation not because the school punishes them because they "weren't good enough". You never stated that they didn't deserve the NCAA, you just said decline the NIT. And asked for everyone else's opinion. My opinion is that it is stupid to even make the statement based on your supposition that it would be punishment and that "they" don't deserve ANY post season play. That quite frankly is stupid. And, when I said so, you read one line of my post and called me a moron. You have made up your mind and are pissed that anyone would challenge you.

This team played with 50% of its underneath offense and defense sidelined. CCM finally got Jordan McRae to play to his potential on offense and some on defense. However, his turnovers hurt us more than anyone is willing to admit. I feel like we finally started playing like we should have. I feel next years team will continue to improve and the dance will be a real deal. I guess sweeping Vandy, pounding KY, and continuing the dominance over FL isn't good enough anymore for a rebuilding team. Instant gratification is all the rage.

ohhh here is an idea!!!! Don't comment then! Post counts are everything though, right?

You asked for the boards opinion, and when it isn't yours you complain and say don't post. Why don't you change the OP to say this is a thread about punishing the team for not playing up to my standards and all those who agree should post here. If you disagree, go somewhere else and put a positive spin in the NIT.

Don't bother responding, at your request, thread on ignore.......
