Feels like 2024 is shaping up to look something like:

CB: Gibson/Matthews
CB: McCoy/Beasley
Star: Jeudy-Lally/Carter
S: Jakobe Thomas/Jourdan Thomas
S: John Slaughter/Jourdan Thomas

And I like it

I thought I saw a headline that Iowa's starting TE was sitting out the bowl game to prepare for the draft. If that's the case, that should ease the threat since he was their leading pass receiver. It certainly looks like Banks will be loading the box. "Beat us in the air. You're not beating us on the ground."
BVS says, "That means we have no video on the backup TE... who will end the night with 12 receptions for 160 yards, two TDs, and Citrus Bowl MVP."

Is JL returning? If so, I would feel much better about our DB Situation

Is Rodney Harrison’s kid apparently not any good?

This is a projected 2 deep defensive backfield for the Citrus Bowl:

McCollough will be gone but hopefully the other five return so we’ll have them in addition to the five others you listed. It will be a new backfield and may lack some experience but hopefully will be a stronger backfield.

Pretty thin, but Jordan Matthews and John Slaughter should also get some PT in the bowl. Need some playmakers to emerge… enough of the bend but don’t break attitude in the secondary. We made life too easy for opponents this year

In many games we committed to stop the run and that left the DBs playing with cushion…so part of the “too much cushion“ problem was scheme and part was the abilities of the CBs…be interesting to see what these new guys can do…

I know. Guess I’m just hopeful we have guys on scholly that can actually beat out a walk on….
The player performing the best in practice at present is who should start. Rather or not a scholarship brought them there or rather the walked on should not matter the least little bit. Do you not agree?

What is the thoughts going around concerning the mass exodus in our defensive backfield? Is it Martinez, is it Heupel cleaning house, or is it the defense in general ?

My point is if you want to compete in the SEC, you better be recruiting well enough a walk on can’t get to the field.

only time I remember seeing him this year he got trucked by a ballcarrier near the sideline....I don't remember if it was a ST or offensive play, but the other guy ran over him

Coming from an average fan with zero experience, the common thread seems to be a lack of development. I can't believe that all of the guys leaving lack talent. Ten-yard cushions, poor tackling, and lack of ball awareness, all point to coaching in my book. If you don't buy that, then I'd say we have a huge problem with evaluating talent.
It would be safe to say the majority of teams have their issues allowing passing yardage. Most QB’s today can pass and run which keeps eyes in the backfield. Finding them lockdown corners is rare there not many of them. Then finding them safeties who can both react and cover ground is also rare. Look at the past SEC elite WR’s and you will see they are giving the pro DB’s a fit too! There ain’t but one real remedy if you ain’t got some of the few and that’s pressure.

Is it conceiveable that the scholarship DB's frequent this site and saw how dissappointed the fans have been in their performance and decided to jump ship for the portal opportunities? (blue font?)

Are we actually down to (6) scholarship DB's for the upcoming bowl game?
8 not counting McCullough or Judy-Lally. I'd say 12 is about all you can carry with roster number limits. 10 scholarship DBs is plenty for this game lol. They are inexperienced though. It'll be fun to see how they do.

That's not a two deep... That's one deep lol. They have 8 scholarship DBs not counting Jeudy-Lally & McCullough. Obviously, they must not feel comfortable with all of them if Brooks has been playing. I would bet they will play 6-8 DBs on Monday including those listed in your one deep
