Lol! I hear you on the AF. Not the freaking friendliest folks in the sky but this is the first time I have ever flown AF.Sorry. I hear that kind of crap all the time about how our FAs are fat or old or whatever. It just gets old. I have yet to meet anyone that buys a ticket based on how the FAs look.
But fwiw, I had a friend that came back from Europe on AF and he said that he would rather swim the next time.
Yeah. But they are safe until they die. We pilots become unsafe at 65. (apparently)Lol! I hear you on the AF. Not the freaking friendliest folks in the sky but this is the first time I have ever flown AF.
Not to be argumentative, I just made an observation about the FA. I did remark to my wife that if we had a serious emergency requiring evacuation off the plane, the number one problem may be getting the waddling medical emergency out of everyone's way.
I will say the best looking FA I have ever seen was back in the 80s in Salt Lake City for Delta The best looking FA crews to me were KLM.
Yeah. But they are safe until they die. We pilots become unsafe at 65. (apparently)
I know what you were saying and I apologize for coming off as hot headed. It is the America we live in. You can't discriminate based on size or health or age (except for pilots). I have said for years that if the airlines wanted to 'cull the herd' as it were, all they need to do is have the FAs get in the pool and help a plane full of people into a raft. (Pilots too for that matter)
That being said, some of the older crew are very very good. There are interesting things going on personnel wise in this industry.
No problem at all.Yeah. But they are safe until they die. We pilots become unsafe at 65. (apparently)

They have to do EKGs?
Actually, they should be. If a pilot keels over and dies, there's a backup. If a truck driver dies at the wheel, he will probably kill someone else.
i don't know if I agree with your assessment as to the role DEI plays. Flight attendants 'hotness' is a horse that left the barn a long time ago. I can almost remember the day that the 'weigh-in' for them at yearly training was canceled. They went from eating lettuce and cottage cheese to cheeseburgers at the training center cafeteria. And I don't know if you have noticed, but there are an awful lot of homosexual males in the midst of the FA ranks. I'm not saying it is a result of DEI though, but it certainly checks a box.And blaming “DEI” for FAs not being hot enough, which isn’t the job description anyway, is very stupid
Here’s an old Eastern commercial when it was about the “hotness”.i don't know if I agree with your assessment as to the role DEI plays. You are correct though, none of that is in the job description. Passenger safety is the number one reason for them being there. Anything else.... ANYTHING else, is pure benefit to the passenger. The real sad thing is that the old FAs are the ones that are service oriented. The new generation would rather sit on ass and look at their phones for an hour while the old grannies will get up and serve you a coke. Now what DEI HAS done is to lower the bar for their qualifications, and more importantly continuation in the job. You can agree or disagree, I frankly don't care, but I have been at this for 33 years and I know the changes I have seen.
FA's being fat or old doesn't really matter. But them being surly does. Too many of them are surly, on US airlines anyway.Sorry. I hear that kind of crap all the time about how our FAs are fat or old or whatever. It just gets old. I have yet to meet anyone that buys a ticket based on how the FAs look.

Fair points. The last sentence of your first paragraph is part of my point; IMO that lowering of standards in many industries started before DEI, which is sometimes used as a scapegoati don't know if I agree with your assessment as to the role DEI plays. I'm not going to defend it, but it is nothing unique to the airlines. Deregulation brought us the sardine cans we all enjoy now, and with it came surly... everybody. Now let's list all the other industries/jobs where you get surly people. That is my main issue. Forget looks, the customer service and friendliness I get on non-US-carrier international flights blows away the US carriers 100% of the time.
Yeah but those sardine cans fly all over the world but surly FA's are more of an American experience. Why would that be?I'm not going to defend it, but it is nothing unique to the airlines. Maybe because the way they are treated by the travelling public? I honestly don't know. But it doesn't occur in a vacuum. They aren't assholes just because they woke up and felt like being an *******. If that IS the reason, then the airlines have identified a fool proof way of identifying assholes and other businesses should take notice.Yeah but those sardine cans fly all over the world but surly FA's are more of an American experience. Why would that be?
Not 100% of the time, but frequently, the further one goes in our modern university system the dumber and less capable. It's proof that having a college degree doesn't make somebody smart.
There are technicians/craft with no college degree I work with that are far more intelligent and competent than many "college-educated" engineers I've come across.
