Delvin Jones Looking Around

I believe Jones could be a Jared Cook kind of TE. I was really excited to get him. Hopefully we will beat AU and show our recruits what we have rolling in K-VIlle!

Any time I get upset about a guy opening up his recruitment, I just think about the fact that we are going to see Tyler Bray passing the ball to DeMarco Cobbs, Markeith Ambles and Matt Milton while handing off to BB, Oku and Poole next year.

We're going to see JJ and Myles at Safety with M. Hughes holding down the middle of our DL and guys like Willis and Miller learning behind Walker, G. Williams and B. Martin.

We are going to have a helluva team in future years and a great recruiting class this year.

Irvin, Jones, Pair or anybody else isn't going to dampen my mood. I would love to get Irvin and see some more LB and OL commits, though.

I think Ralph Williams and the LB from GA are underrated, solid recruits too.

Matt,

Has Jones passed his entrance exam? Do you not have to pass the ACT or SAT before you can take any Official's?

I wouldn't think you have to pass your SAT/ACT to take an official. Some kids probably haven't even taken the test yet. But I could be wrong.

Hope we can hold on to this kid. This week hasn't been the best as far as recruiting news. Seems like we need a little momentum. A win would be nice Saturday.
He's going to have a heck of a QB throwing to him (Bray and maybe Newton)...so I hope he's not basing his decision on the poor QB play this season. For all of these WR's and other skill positions, the Cavalry IS coming.

+1....and that is why I don't want to see us lose him. This guy used in a similar fashion (hybrid WR/TE) like Cook gives us 2 extremely tall receivers. We've never had that. I was/am still really hoping that we can pull Prater in too.
That would give us an unprecedented 3 6'5"-6'"6 guys to throw to! Add to that a great QB (Bray and maybe Newton) and our stable of RB's...this offense will suddenly get smoking hot in the next few years.:dance2:

One hell of an official and unofficial list for this weekend. A win would be nice.

Recruiting is sales pure and simple. The more qualified prospects you present your program to,the more sales you make. The quality and quantity of prospects, and the value of the product determine your ultimate success. The win Tripper speaks of is imperative while we have a bunch of Huge prospects experiencing the product! We need to close the deal on Saturday!

GO VOLS !:dance2:

Would a reason for him to suddenly change his mind be that he wants to play DL in College.....and we already have (4) 4/5* (depending on which recruiting service) DL committed? If he is OK with TE, he needs to realize the QB we have coming in is a stud, we NEED TE's, and Bama already has 2 stud TE's coming in. I guess when I was 18 I didnt think too rationally either....I swear some of this kids just want the attention that saying they are "looking around" brings.

Jones is prob gonna be a DE not a TE. The guy had 20 sacks as Jr and I think he sees a lot of other DE talent coming in and decided to explore his options, the same with meline. Pair made statements when he first committed that told me he wasn't solid to tennessee, as for irwin, I'm fine with that, the longer a kid stays in your program the better, to many JC prospects takes up room when you could bring in a longer term better solution. Irwin would just be a temp stop gap, its always a gamble with jc kids. Don't get me wrong I think tennesse wants to get these kids but I also think we have just as good or better options at those positions, although I think jones is gonna be good at whatever position he ends up playing so I hate to lose him

Dude seriously, the guy's name is IrVin. I usually don't point out stuff like that, but I've seen a couple of posts calling him Irwin. For some reason it was just bugging me.

My bad, irvin. I think I saw that as well and it just kind of stuck in my head as irwin

Irvin would be a big loss IMO. He is an incredible athlete. But like I said, if he is "dumb" enough to pick WVU over UT....with our coaching staff and immediate playing time at a big time school, in the best conference in college football staring him right in the face....probably not a good fit mentally. If you go to WVU, enjoy not ever being known nationally or playing on TV except for a couple Thursday nights. :eek:k:

the only chance he even sees the field is as a TE.... our defensive line is locked down for another 2-3 yrs with present commits... did anyone else see Miller tonight??

interesting....care to elaborate?

just we are at a point where we have more kids wanting to come than we have room and we are still chasing kids we would rather have than those wanting to come and/or we would rather have. weeding has to start happening sometime..
