Demand Championships

We, as Tennessee fans need to demand championships out of this program. The support, the money, the facilities, and the tradition are all there for us to win championships.

However, the 7 win bug has bitten this fanbase lately. If we ever want championships we need to demand them.

Is Butch Jones better than what we had? Absolutely, but that in itself doesn't make him Tennessee caliber.

Is Butch Jones championship caliber? I don't know, but if he isn't, he doesn't need to be the coach here.

Just my two cents. I want to win.

2009 12-0 ranked 4th in the BCS...with 3 star players. You..ranked bottom fan in the SEC and top Negavol of which Volnation would like to pee on and be done with. Support our coach or GTFO.

What a freakin' idiot post !!! Jones wasn't head coach in 2009 at Cincy genius !!!

That's a great example of the kind of coach and admin. butt kissing fans that keep us from being like Bama & Florida and demanding and getting a championship calibre coach.

It's always funny watching spoiled kids make demands.

I always image the rich girl in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. "I demand a pony daddy, get it for me now"

Reality knows its a process and sometimes you don't succeed but you keep trying until you get it right. You also have to play with the cards you've got. Kids just cry and demand.

Amen. Guys you can't turn a turd into a trophy overnight. Nothing wrong with expecting the best, but you have to know where UT stands in the eyes of regular people, recruits and coaches. We may have the best facilities, but so what? The best facilities don't make you an instant winner. The rest of the SEC have good facilities as well. We have a delusional fanbase that's stuck in 1998 and seriously thought Gruden was coming here.

I know we're Tennessee and all that jazz but we're not in 1998 anymore, we're a lower tier football school. Let's work on being good before we focus on being great.

Accepting "improvement" is why we are in the predicament we are and stuck in bidding wars with Colorado for coaches. Throughout our history, we've expected winners and acted accordingly as a program. Too many don't anymore and that has to change.

So, do we accept "improvement"? No, not unless it means competing for championships.

There is a thing called "realism" that is lacked on this board from time to time. The point is, that demanding a championship in either of the first 2 years, is most likely not realistic.

Am I supposed to write a letter to someone? Should I get a tattoo? Do I name my next child "SEC East?" Do I cancel my season tickets if we lose to Georgia? If we do not get a championship in 2014, should I fire Butch Jones? Seriously, how am I or anyone else around here supposed to "demand championships out of this program?"

'scuse my ignorance, but it seems a silly post. We have been demanding so much from our Vols that we fired a successful, hall-of-fame coach just one year after beating Wisconsin in a bowl game and nearly winning the SEC championship. Look where our demands have gotten us.

"Championships" will not happen and here is why. If Coach Jones were to win a NC he would be fired after the first inevitable downturn when the fans show up with torches and pitchforks demanding the next great coach. The entire "process" will start again. We have done so before and will do so again. For now, I intend to enjoy the ride back up.:hi:
