Dems propose "Reasonable Profits Board"

The proposal is meant only to draw attention to oil company profits. Its a gimmick. Will never even make it to a subcommittee in the House and probably only get one hearing in a Senate committee just so people can make some speeches.

Get over it.

If oil company profits were really that good, we'd all be scrambling to buy stock.

Just because the market has priced that in such that they are properly valued and won't go up a lot doesn't mean that they aren't in fact making huge profits.

Your comment is idiotic and illogical. I award you no points, may God have mercy on your soul.

Thanks for maintaining polite intellectual discourse.

I'm not saying they aren't profitable. But what constitutes "huge" profits? If it's a lot to you and I, is that good enough?

Depends on who is making the profits, duh. Oil/gas = bad, evil rotten bastages that kill polar bears

There was price controls put on gasoline during the Carter presidency. It resulted in gas shortages and long lines at gasoline stations.

I think there was a tad more to it than that but it didn't help.

closing tax loopholes is one thing, but capping profit margin in an industry where profit margins aren't out of line? wth

scary that these people have the arrogance to push this anti-American proposals. the problem is that if they keep proposing this garbage, eventually it may get passed. that's the scary part of this.

Based on the debate last night, might be more popular with the republican crowd

I hated Newt's response:

A) He called himself a conservative.
B) Whether or not SOPA is the right thing to do has nothing to do with how conservatives feel about Hollywood.

I told my girlfriend something like "the actors are liberals. The people who run hollywood are conservative."

I have a theory that actors/musicians etc are progressives because they feel guilty about how much money they make for what is ultimately not real work.

(and before anyone wants to blast me about how hard musicians, etc work, let me say that I play about 12 different instruments (mostly all brass) and I first learned to play over 30 years ago. I have had many public performances and we actually made a decent amount of money doing it. And last year I turned down a slot singing in the band my brother-in-law is in and they are getting a decent amount of radio time (during local stuff, not nationally yet, though that may change since they are supposed to go on tour soon) at the moment. So its not like I am ignorant on the subject.)

I suggest we let a couple dozen polar bears loose in Big Oil management buildings for a couple of hours. This will settle the score, imo.
