I have a theory that actors/musicians etc are progressives because they feel guilty about how much money they make for what is ultimately not real work.

(and before anyone wants to blast me about how hard musicians, etc work, let me say that I play about 12 different instruments (mostly all brass) and I first learned to play over 30 years ago. I have had many public performances and we actually made a decent amount of money doing it. And last year I turned down a slot singing in the band my brother-in-law is in and they are getting a decent amount of radio time (during local stuff, not nationally yet, though that may change since they are supposed to go on tour soon) at the moment. So its not like I am ignorant on the subject.)

I've lived with a musician who tries to makes a living on it while also getting a degree. He works a lot (classes and practice, plus weekend gigs, I'd say its 65-70 hour work week). Now I could give him crap about how his work entails playing an instrument which he finds fun. But just because you enjoy your work doesn't mean it's not work.

If I was to make a theory about why they are progressive, it would be A.) the group/community itself is and has always been progressive and B.) conservatism has a lot of appeal to free market/capitalism ideals which musicians/artists are fairly sheltered from. They are much more familiar with social issues.

That being said, he is a conservative, but a lot of people are in Tennessee.
