Department of Government Efficiency - DOGE

Well that's a point of debate. Fine if you think that, but it will happen. I, personally, am a proponent of using economics to keep BRICS at bay.

BRICS is just a counter to what the U.S. has been doing to individual countries, stop doing that unless its a very extreme and this wouldn't have been a thing. There is no way to go to a non-US dollar system at scale absent reset, reset will eventually happen but there is no backup system.

You might be able to do searches of what the Chinese were talking about in 2008-2009 i.e. they have no choice but to go along with Bretton woods absent reset.

The more the U.S. uses the global financial system as a weapon, it would seem logical for countries to setup their own systems of trade and settle trades, but at the end of the day there is a u.s. dollar on the back end.

China could exit from the the current system and I would imagine your ATM will stop working within a few hours and never work again, but they'll be scrambling to save their 1+ billion people at the same time.

But the Ukraine war thread told me there was no coup and no us involvement
as is usual with these things regarding Ukraine the time line is wrong.

The "coup" was in 2013. Biden withholding the money happened in 2015. Did Biden invent time travel too?

Nuland also had less money to spend in Ukraine than she did in Russia. So under this logic, Putin is an American stooge too.

yall really need to start at the basics, get those straightened out, and then look to fill in any cracks with the conspiracies. starting with the basis of a conspiracy and ignoring the extreme basics of a timeline is just laughable.

They destroyed the education system and now they are freaking out something is being done. Bunch of losers
Exactly. The government has had control of the Dep. of Education, yet always seem to rail about how broken and unfair it is. Heaven forbid somebody try something different than what has always been done.

That whole video is cringe as hell. Waters, and the constituency that elected her, should be embarrassed.

Its a complete loser strategy. For the most part this money wasn't going to the people it represents, so the challenger during the next election will bring up the fact that it wasn't supportive of cutting wasteful spending that wasn't even going to the people in the district.

🤷‍♂️

The elon is hitler is probably worse than trump is hitler.... out of touch with reality.

And while the DOGE does seem to be aggressively targeting wasteful spending in the executive branch, it remains quite unclear whether those efforts will survive inevitable court challenges and whether the federal budget will actually decline (or at least grow less quickly) as a result.

The main problem in assessing the DOGE project at this point is that so much is unknown—and that much of that opacity seems to be intentional. Even the most basic things like the legal limits of Musk's role and how many staff are working for the DOGE remain unclear. More complicated questions like how much wasteful spending has been cut and whether those cuts can survive legal and congressional challenges are completely unknown. Indeed, even the most foundational aspect of what DOGE is doing—using presidential authority to block spending Congress has authorized—is on shaky legal footing. Musk is obviously moving quickly and causing a great deal of alarm within the administrative state, but it is hard to tell whether he's slashing government, breaking things, or merely putting on a big show for Trump's fans in the media and online.

Here's what we do know: The DOGE's mandate has already shifted significantly—to the point where it looks more like a more aggressive version of a Barack Obama–era project meant to streamline and digitize bureaucracy rather than the budget-cutting entity originally promised.

That might be a worthwhile goal, of course, and one that could give the president more direct control over the federal government's extensive contracting systems. But it is a considerably different one than the bold promise Musk made during the final stages of the presidential campaign: that DOGE would find $2 trillion in budget cuts.

Ramaswamy said last week that his departure from the DOGE was due to a difference in vision. Whereas he wanted to focus on cutting federal regulations and working with Congress to cut spending, as he and Musk noted in their Journal op-ed, he said the department has now "evolved from a focus on legal constitutional issues" to a focus on digital technology.
