Department of Government Efficiency - DOGE

Balko is the same guy who blamed inflation on the lack of illegals coming into the country during Trump's first term.....

Yeah, he's a far left radical hack

Say what? That's economic libertarianism on display. It's a simple supply/demand model applied to labor. You can argue that he's over-stating its impact but you can't argue that he's saying something false. And it's completely unreasonable to say he's a far left radical hack because of it. The criticism doesn't even make sense in this context.

It's OK to disagree with his opinions, but I'm talking about trusting the information he bases his opinions on....like when he says there is a problem with completed contracts.

What? Damn near everything he says is a lie, he gets caught in a new one every day.

Drudge Report broke the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal citing (gasp) unnamed sources. Clinton himself (!!) said "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Do you think you know more about the situation than Clinton??

See how stupid that sounds? Lol
It is a shame that our current media has stooped so far on the credibility scale that people are willing to take attributed statements of self-interested sources as truth, no questions asked.

The media did this to themselves, and us. That is where the blame lies. I expect people in leadership to cheerlead their own actions. I used to trust the media to keep them in check.

Now, I just don’t believe any of them.

I posted a question about Doge's scope. I think you keep tabs on Elon more than most.

If you don't mind answering, I'd appreciate it.

I am citing a tweet Musk himself made.
Also, why would he even know? Lol
The sources told the news agency that Ukraine's continued access to Starlink was brought up in discussions between US and Ukrainian officials after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky turned down an initial proposal from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent
Was he part of these discussions, as an unelected bureaucrat? If so, why?

I don't think it's just the media, certain politicians have invested a lot of capital in slandering the media and it has worked on people. If someone takes Elon's tweets as absolute truth, I'm more likely to assume that that person has willingly swallowed a lot of tribal propaganda than to think that the media let them down

I found that poll has recently made its way into the news cycle. I read an article in "The Independent" after i saw your post.

One thing I don't fully understand wRT DOGE...is Doge / Elon in charge of shutting down agencies or does it / he make recommendations to the head of an agency or the president to shut it down?

Anybody know???

Honestly, we're in very confusing waters right now. They are lying and saying to the courts that Elon doesn't work for DOGE, so I believe that technically would answer your question that he holds 0 power, but we all know that's not true. It does appear Elon can say whatever he wants and has the POTUS' approval until otherwise stated. Like when Trump was asked if it was a conflict of interest for Musk to have access to audit the DoD when he has contracts with them and competes for contracts. Trump said he didn't even know it was happening.

If an agency, like USAID, was created by an XO, then presumably Trump/Musk can just wish it away, however, the duties the agency perform don't just go away. If congressional spending appropriated $45B or whatever through USAID, it still is going to get spent, it will just get channeled through some other agency now? IDK. Like I said, it's very confusing.

I’d be more inclined to believe a man about a service he didn’t have to provide to someone, than I would be to believe a man accused of cheating on his wife.

But this is still weird. Musk never had to provide them internet service to begin with. Yet you’re pretending it’s someone terrible if he were to take it away?

Seems like more nonsense

Agreed. There is a lack of clarity.

Do you know if Elon has unilateral authority to close an agency or does he make recommendations and other (authorized) people make the decision?

Seriously, the 500,000 more immigrants living in the US in 2020 (vs 2015) caused the inflation from 2022-2024??

Not spending. Not paying $700/week to sit at home playing Call of Duty.

There's provisions in those contracts that determine payment/termination. I'll let the courts determine that instead of a writer with a clear anti-Trump ax grind

Can you link to the quote?

If normal is 3m every 5 years, and the economy called for 3m immigrants over those 5 years, and we only got 500k, you can see how this would be a problem, right? Especially when Trump's own chamber of commerce claims we started the term 1m workers behind the 8 ball...

This is what I found trying to google what you said. He explains to the Biden admin how job growth, wage growth, and growing demand are the sources of inflation and he didn't just make it up. Look at this "far left radical hack" making right wing arguments. Crazy, right?

another poster thought the same. I agree.

I just don't know if the authority to shudder an agency is in the EO. seems like none of us know for sure.

I would guess this is a gray area. For example, if it can be determined that said agency is absolutely required for carrying out something that has been passed by congress, I could see court challenges of the XO being successful. But if they're created by an executive, then they should be eligible to be deleted by an executive, as the default.

The best example of this would be next guy deleting the ERS and those duties getting swallowed up by the IRS. It's probably too new for congress to even have a hand in its operation that would prevent its dissolution.

Again, agreed. If one branch creates an agency, the other branch cannot unilaterally close it unless that was part of the agency's founding.

Without looking at the statutory code for all the agencies, I would gather most agencies created by Congress would have to be destroyed by Congress unless authority has been given. Realistically though, a President can just about shutdown any agency he wants really, although there might be legal challenges.... I would say generally that is how its suppose to work under the Constitution. Biden more or less shutdown immigration enforcement. Could he get rid of ICE officially? Probably no, but you would have to go and check.

Realistically, the President is the CEO, if you don't like the way he is doing the job, you can fire him.

I think this is a simple way of looking at it. i am not sure it would work that way in application.

agree with much of what you shared, though.

where I said something was literally the biggest thing of whatever? good luck finding that. I am sure I have made similar statements at some point, but I doubt you will find it from the last couple pages of any thread.

IIRC my last "worst" was Obama signing off on a secret bill. I do also say every knew president is the worst, and the next one will continue it, so maybe you mean something like that.

I guarantee you have and I don't think you are a bad person for saying it. I think you are silly to mock people for these opinion heavy statements when we all do it. Don't throw rocks when you live in a glass house.

We basically all do the same thing as Elon Musk.

In the oval office, Trump made it clear that Elon takes direction, returns with information, and then takes direction. Elon confirmed as Trump asserted.
