Department of Government Efficiency - DOGE

I like the idea of DOGE. I love that they are making cuts to ridiculous expenses. But it's hard to trust anything the government does, especially when it's Trump and Musk, two known liars who are selling us outrageous DOGE lies from the get-go.

Why do they have to politicize it so much? Why do they have to troll so much? Why do they have to lie? Make your jobs easier by being better about all this. It's so stupid.

However, I am at the point where I do think they will make a significant dent to spending, but I'm still very skeptical of where all the budget chips will fall in the end.

And then wait until the next admin gets their hands on DOGE and Frankenstein's monster is politicized the other way.

Hm. What they are doing is eliminating the politicization of hidden government funding which is what you are crying about. Eliminate it all.

This isn't complex, matter of fact it is political funding but part of it appears to be used for criminal conduct but we will have to see as we go along.

It plainly states "for reproductive health" from the people pissed it's getting cut off. You are just a sheep controlled by your liberal media.
Brother, if you read "blocking aid infringes on gains to health and reproductive health" and think that's confirmation that 50 million dollars, more than we spend on contraception for the entire world, is earmarked for "condoms in Gaza," you can't say a word about being a sheep lol

I'm with you on DOGE. I think it's a good idea and long overdue. I also agree about the politicization issues. This is akin to what many have said about the treatment of Trump over the years. He's probably endured more mischaracterization and slander than anyone I can remember. And why? There's plenty enough there by simply being truthful. I see the same thing with government waste. Avoid playing politics and just tell the truth

How are they eliminating the politicization of anything? They seem to be entrenching it.

Yeah, I've said this 1,000x, but if it's so bad, why do people need to misrepresent it? You do your side a disservice.

The problem is politization = saying what you found. If they don't say what they found, they get accused of doing it under a cloak of secrecy. It's a no win.

because its not enough for them to just announce we are cutting X. its all been "we are wasting X million dollars on this looney left idea of Y".
From a pure people perspective, there are folks of all political stripes being impacted. Conservatives and Trump supporters are losing jobs, too.

A bit more empathy and a little less schadenfreude might not be a bad thing.

It’s hard for me to have empathy for a .gov employee. I can’t recall one having empathy for me when I simply needed them to do their job in a timely fashion.

Yeah, you know what I mean though. Folks acting like this is a purge of political enemies is way off. It's real people of all stripes losing their jobs. At a human level this gives me no joy.

We have a hard deadline for an SES-level report that's due on a weekly basis that requires a govvy to send us some files every week. The dude gets the files between 4-8 AM on the day we build the report. He has a deadline to send them to us by noon the day he receives them. That's 4-8 hours between receipt and needing to get them to us. He simply has to forward the emails.

The report for the SES is mission critical, so we can't skip it or delay it. It's due by 7 AM the next morning. Can you guess about what time we get the files from the long pole in the tent dude that can't figure out how to forward an email?

I mean everyone should be cheering that our tax dollars are going to stop going to Gaza for condoms or transgender comic books. Anyone should be thrilled at exposing our tax dollars used to funnel back money to politicians. But, no, Elon is a Nazi and shouldn't be allowed to expose this stuff. "I mean this stuff is bad but let's shoot the messenger. "
Rough day for those senators driving Tesla’s.

I get it. I hate to see (almost) anyone lose their job but its hard for me to feel sorry for the majority of them.

I don't know of anyone else in the uni party that would have had the stones to create such a thing.

Only Trump could have pulled this off.

But I think the media attention is certainly warranted. If this was done behind closed doors and without public knowledge/input, you wouldn't even have seen a fraction of what's been stopped.

To me, this was and is the only way it could have been pulled off. Remember the WaPo talking about "democracy dies in darkness." Yeah, same thing here.

Yes. There is real harm being done to real people. For example, a friend of mine has a son battling brain cancer. He was just approved for an experimental treatment at a health center with government funding contracts in place. When Trump issued an EO last week which touched on medical research, communication with the care team impacted and that child's plan of care was thrown into disarray.

One of the problems is that all of the programs that almost most Americans find "worthy" is co-mingled with the programs that are, shall we say "questionable." For instance, how does one unpack the true humanitarian aid provided by USAID (say, Earthquake relief operations in Turkey) from the social engineering programs (Sesame Street in Iraq, anyone?)

Marco Rubio says that preliminary inquiries were made into USAID programs so the Admin could determine how to proceed. He also says those inquiries were stonewalled. That, in turn, led to the complete disruption of ALL programs because ALL funding was halted in order to stop fraud/programs not supported by this Admin.

Assuming Rubio was correct, this seems to be an instance of entrenched bureaucracy thinking this Administration was more of the same, when it is not. Some of the hurt being experienced may have been avoided but for agency lack of cooperation with the Administration. As much as I hope this Admin will cut wasteful spending, I hope we can at least get back to quickly funding things that the vast majority of Americans think are worthy of funding.
