Depth issues - why?

All I can remember some saying was the only thing Dooley did was fill the cupboard for the next person... now, the quality may not be there, but there should be some depth besides the walk ons.

Below is a list of players from the 2009 - 2012 teams that left the teams before their eligibility was complete.
Not for the N.F.L. but for other reasons.

This is after Fulmer left:

(1) B.J. Coleman (2)M. Edwards (3) C. Donald (4) A. Douglas (5) M. Hughes (6) A. Paige (7) L. Creer (8)
D. Rogan (9) D. Swatelle (10) N. Stephens (11) B. Vinson (12) B. Warren (13) T. Williams (14) B. Brown (15) D. Myles (16) T. Meline (17) N. Oliver (18) C. Fugate
(19) J. Jackson (20) E. Gordon (21) D. Oku (22) J. Askew (23) J. Schofield (24) M. Milton (25) A. Jeffery (26) D. Arnett (27) T. Page (28) I. Lanier (29) D. Rogers (30) C. Clear

I am positive that there are more names but I can't think of any more. On this list, I see q.b., rb, o-line, d-line, receivers, T.E.,

Here's a few more:

31. Borque
32. Bonner
33. Gray
34. Trent Taylor
35. Quenshaun Watson
36. Pat Martin
37. John Brown
38. Dave Clark
39. Marques Dixon
40. Eddrick Loften
41. Nash Nance

The attrition of players from the coaching changes has been brutal to our roster. Add in some players that flaked out and left early as well as those that left for the NFL, and it adds up to the severe depth problems we now face. It will take another two or three recruiting classes to address all of these needs.

Not sure about that. Mike Davis is either 2nd or 3rd in the SEC in rushing right now.

Because he splits time with b. wilds. Mike Davis is lattimore with better moves and speed. I won't retract my statement. I still say he is POSSIBLY the best RB in the SEC. Ill even go a nit further and say Maybe top 5 in country.

This has probably already been hashed out on VN, so pardon the thread but I'm hoping some folks more knowledgeable than me can weigh in.

Why has UT had depth issues at seemingly every damn position for multiple years now. We have walk-ons in our two-deep rotation, what is that crap? Have we not been recruiting enough bodies to fill all positions or what?

Attrition and attrition.

not sure why everyone keeps bringing up attrition - this is not like when Kiffy was here and we were way under our 85 number

we didnt sign a full class last year and we are still right at 85 on schollies

now our good players in some cases aren't fits for CBJ's system (think big dan), in other cases are hurt (think Cmaggit, in other cases are loaded at the same positions (think Mjackson), and in other cases just aren't that good (multiple candidates, Jsmith, AJ, etc)

but attrition is not that big a factor if you are still at 85 - if you do the math and want to sign 20-25 a year and occasionally redshirt guys then you have to have a lot of attrition to stay at 85

we are at it this year and will have to kick guys out of the program to stay under 85 next year

Of our QB's, RB's, WR's, TE's, and DB's...would any of them start for Bama, LSU, UGA, SC, UF?

QB- No way
RB- no no way
WR- no no no way
TE- not even SE Mo St would use ours
DB- maybe Mcneil

Does not even recruiting or going after Von Bell even give you any question at how dumb our previous HC was? This may be the biggest no go of the decade...No attempt to pursue was stupid....CBJ almost pulled it off but too late....

Reality eludes most people here on VN unfortunately.

Reality is that to be a top 10 team or to Win the SEC East even requires that we have a solid 2 deep rotation of STARTER quality players at EVERY position.

That's what Bama, Oregon, ect have now so when a starter comes out for a breather they just send in another starter that's a year or 2 younger and the quality of play doesn't drop off at all.

Reality is that it WILL take several years for bUTch to consistently recruit top players and classes to build up a roster of SEC type starters on a solid 2 deep rotation.

It's also MUCH harder to recruit top players to come to a losing program even when those top players have a chance to play much earlier to be able to showcase their skills to the NFL scouts.

I hate being patient but reality says that's my only choice for several more years unfortunately.

VFL...GBO!!!
