Yeah, I mean that guy...who did more to decimate the program here in 1 year than ANYONE in the history of UT Football...and we're still suffering probation for his oversight over the program....

I get people not liking Kiffin for the way he left Knoxville, but to act like he was more of a failure from a coaching standpoint than Dooley is absurd. Both men won 4 SEC games, the difference was that Kiffin was here for 1 year and Dooley was here for 3. Kiffin's team demolished UGA and SC. Dooley's best conference win was an OT win over Vandy. Kiffin came closer than anyone to beating Bama in '09. Dooley lost to Bama by 31 all three times he played them.

If your question is 'who was the worst coach for UT in UT's history', then the answer is undoubtedly Lane Kiffin.

Dooley left the program in better shape than he found it.

Kiffin destroyed the program.

"""Kiffin's team demolished UGA and SC"""

He demolished UT, too.

Mmmmkay?

Mmm, no. Dooley took over a team that was 7-5 the year before. Admittedly, they lost some key parts, most notably a guy who had evolved into a serviceable QB and one of the best defenders the school has ever seen. But, he then proceeded to take the leftovers and go 6-7, which with a little luck could have been as good as 8-5. From there as more and more of his players came into the fold he then fielded teams that went 5-7 and either 5-7 or 4-8. Not sure how you can honestly say that the team is in better shape than he found it. We have a roster full of scholarship players, but in large part that's just numbers for numbers sake. A good portion of the guys on that roster aren't SEC level talent, especially on defense.

He is the worst coach in UT history by all measurable standards.

However he is not the worst coach in SEC team history (I didnt include TAM or Mizzou).

Alabama- Jennings Whitworth mid 50s
4-24

Arkansas Jack Crow early 90s
9-15

Auburn Earl Brown late 40s
3-22-4

Georgia Johnny Griffith early 60s
10-16-4

LSU Curly Hallman early 90s
16-28

Yaw yaw only won 10 games out of 35 for Ole Miss

Rocky Felker was 21-34 for Miss State in the late 80s.

Kiffin demolished the program.

Dooley built it back up.

Dooley > Kiffin, for a Tennessee fan.

I honestly believe that Dooley did what he thought would win games for Tennessee. I have never doubted the mans belief in that he wanted Tennessee to succeed. We need to remember that he is human just like anyone else, the difference is that his job was always under a microscope. That goes along with being a head coach. There is no doubt he loved his job, loved his family and wanted the best for the Vols. He tried his best and it didn't work out. I know we always want the best for our team and we, as fans, need to show respect and common courtesy for what he wanted to do at Tennessee. I agree his time was up and the program needed a change but to bash on a man because he didn't succeed is wrong. He did what he could even if it wasn't enough. Lets show some respect and character and let the man leave with his. THAT IS WHAT VOL FANS SHOULD DO. We would expect to be treated the same.

Filling our roster with scholarship players doesn't mean he "built" the program back up. It just means he recruited...something every coach does. If we hire a competent head coach, his immediate results will determine just how "well" Dooley actually recruited, because I'm not convinced he built s*** back up.

If Dooley had built the roster up then he wouldn't have been 1-14 in the last 15 SEC games. You guys either aren't being honest or you are just dumb.Take your pick.
