Not a great hire but not the worst ethier. I wonder if he will mention "owning" the state in his dollar store sponsored press conference lol.

Go to "Vandy Mania" LOL. There saying with him they might can get from the middle pack of the SEC to the top and to see what recruits they can poach from Stanford. It is really amusing to see them thinking they are like the best team in the SEC or the East.

Typical.
They could have hired me and those delusional wannabes would have turned it into a home run hire.

Could be a decent hire for Vandy. Stanford has had great success finding and developing high potential athletes who can meet stringent academic standards. Mason brings that experience with him and can surround himself with coordinators with recruiting connections in the South. It's a better hire than Dooley was, IMO.

We obviously won't know if he's going to be any good for while, but I have got to say I think this is a good hire for them. It's better than I thought they would have gotten, with the way their class has been destroyed.
I'd rather it be this guy than Chad Morris.

Stanford has been great at stopping the read option the last couple years. Wonder if he can bring that to Vandy?

The problem with the Vandy job right now is the fan base (as small as it is). Their expectations are unbelievable following Franklin's "success." Mason and Vandy won't ever compete for the East, but the fans think they're thisclose from being the next Alabama.

He'll either have moderate success and bolt for the first good offer he gets, or take a lateral job because of their unrealistic expectations.

LOLOL that Vandy fans think they can poach Stanford's recruits. But this hire might have stopped the mass exodus. I'm guessing they keep Smith, but not Sawyers.

The more likely result is that he fails miserably, like every coach they have had there in past 60 years not named "James Franklin."

Not forgetting Franklin had the rare window where teams in the SEC East were at a low point with injuries, poor coaching and lack of depth.

I was just trying to give the poor bast*** the benefit of the doubt. He simply has no idea what he's walking into...

Yeah, I actually feel a little bit sorry for him. Maybe he can keep the train Franklin started on the rails long enough to get another HC job offer, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The only train Vandy ever had was being conducted by Vandenberg.

I'll show myself out...
