Detailed background and story on this whole Pearl situation

Nice post. My question is why is the staff ann Pearl getting buy outs? There is more than enoug "just cause" for termination.
Posted via VolNation Mobile

It's a parting gift to get things over as easily as possible. They are under no obligation to pay him anything because they've already terminated his contract. I'm not sure I agree with it, but I do want this to be over as soon as possible.

As a thank you, and more importantly make this go smoothly. Let's say (just throwing it out there) we give him 500K for a buyout. It will make it easy, the university and Pearl leaves on good terms, and it looks good on UT for rewarding him for making UT relevant again.

If the OP was true, I feel bad about how this is going. still has to be done, though.

Is it up to a school or company to decide if you get a severance or a buy-out? Since he doesn't have a contract, we technically don't have to pay anything right?

It's reasonable. Overall he did advance the program and there was nothing malicious about his shortcomings.

Right. But I suppose it helps remove the chances of a messy lawsuit situation.

Many people were livid at Hamilton for bringing this up 2 days before the game against Michigan. If this story is true, and it truly is a cat and mouse game by both sides, then the Trustees are to blame for getting this out. It appears that the players already knew what was going to go down so I take it that the episode this week by Trustees/Hamilton/Pearl was to appease the public. This isn't going to end well imo.

The NCAA is full of crap. It's not their business to tell universities to sack coaches or else--that's absurd. It's their job to investigate violations and mete out punishment if merited. It is not their job effectively to threaten or blackmail universities by saying that their sanctions will be more severe if a coach is kept on. That's outrageous, IMO. And it's all especially outrageous because the NCAA seems to have no sanctioning standards: Some schools/coaches get off easily--happens all the time. And let's pretend that other coaches haven't fudged the truth to save themselves.

Also, did I read this correctly--Hamilton's fate is in Dooley's hands? That makes no sense. And Hamilton is right: if Pearl is sacked, our basketball program will take many major steps backwards.

Well said armchair. Sounds like extortion to me!

If they're not going to fire Hamilton too, I wonder if there are contingency plans to keep him in check. Much of the embarrassment we have received is because of HIS miscues! No wonder Tiffany Carpenter left. They desperately need a PR overall and mute MH publicly! Better yet, move him into development only and put in a new AD that won't screw up every publicized issue.

By the way, what is "TOS"?

Wait a second! So it wasn't Hamilton's personal Crusade to fire the biggest success of his tenure????

I dont see anyway somebody could have made this post up. It all seems to fit in. Think about it, the Basketball team's performance went down the drain after they beat Pitt, which could point to some of this getting out, and some of the players hearing it. It does make Hamilton look better then. I actually thought yesterday while watching us get routed that maybe Hamilton said that because he knew the team would tank, and it would be the perfect time to axe Pearl.

I hope you are happy and you and your Pearl haters can sleep now that he's gone. Now it's on to firing Hamilton, Raleigh and whoever else you don't like.

I doubt he had much influence on the decision. Have you considered placing the blame on the habitual liar and rules violator?

Interesting to note that even Hammy doubts his ability to hire a good coach, if he believes anyone else will be 8 steps back. And this is the man we entrust as our AD. Sad.

Yeah, LawVol! Why did you make Pearl cheat, lie, cover it up, cheat again, and hide it from his boss!? Why did you do it LawVol? Why?

Sounds like Judge Richard Baumgartner was making decisions for the administration over the past weeks. Or someone with similarly cogent thinking abilities. Michigan thanks you for your service.

Thanks, OP. Confirms everything I have been reading in the tea leaves.

So do all of the Pearl lovers now love MH for backing their boy to the point of his own termination?

As I said yesterday Pearl has been posturing to preserve his legacy and go out as a good guy. Haslam and the trustees pull MH's strings and they expressed their displeasure with Pearl's responses by having MH let folks know that there was a limit to their support, and Bruce was over the limit.

Everybody saw what happened all season. It was a house divided right after the 7-0 run. There is no way a coach can mean more than what is in the best interests of the university. The NCAA controlled this from the outset. You had to know a major show cause was coming with the lying and the bump afterwards.

Now they need to go find a top gun and build from here.
