Dez Bryant-like Suspension for Pearl?

Again, is Pearl the only coach in the world that can recruit elite players to UT? Ridiculous to think so.

I never said he was, but the three coaches listed have never done it before as head coaches so I think it is a fair question to ask if they can.

How can you just dismiss are chances? While the odds are never in a teams favor to win it all I still believe we have just as good of a chance as anyone other than Duke. If Irving is hurt I think we are one of the favorites.

It is much too early in the season to even be thinking about that level of play for this team. We have had two great wins away from home, but the Oakland loss also shows us that we are certainly capable of losing to less than elite teams. I do not think we are in any way considered by any basketball folks as a favorite to win the national championship. Impossible---No!, but definitely not likely.

I have said many, many times that if Pearl has to be fired, my first call would be to Bloomington, Indiana to see if there is some amount of money that could pry Crean away from there, and if he says no then proceed as need-be.

I don't see how we could. It would take a large amount more than he is getting now and they would likely match.

Well the favorite is Duke. Other than that we were mentioned with the other 3 or 4 teams right there. Jay Williams said on air we could win it all (take it for what its worth) and a couple others listed us in their top 5 title contenders.

Not saying its a lock by any means, but when we play defense with a 100% effort (which I believe we did not against OU) we are extremely tough to beat. Not saying it is a lock, but winning it all and than firing Bruce while it is no lock it is more likely that any other time since Bernard King at this point in the season.

The only big issue is that the certain NCAA probation and other sanctions are going to mean the new HC is under the microscope. There are a lot of coaches out there that arent necessarily 'dirty' but still dont want to be watched so closely. However, everyone has their price.

Every one was excited about the Pitt game and go on board with this team. They probably feel less sure about the team after the Oakland game. I agree that this team on it's best night can play with and beat anyone. The question is can we sustain that type of effort throughout the season and into the post-season/

The number of people on board far outnumber the number of people giving up on the team after the Oakland game, IMO

Do you think these type of guys could recruit the big name players Pearl has been able to get? I really have no idea other than Kruger who i think probably could since he has NBA experience, but he is 58.
Mooney's the only one I would have some question about on the recruiting trail. Marshall would kill it with facilities like UT's and Jankovich was such a good recruiter as an assistant to Self that I'm confident he'd do just fine.

you also can't believe that someone's going to come in and be able to immediately do it either...
How long did it take Bob Huggins to start getting elite players at Kansas State? How long did it take Mike Rice to get a Top 10 class to Rutgers? It's not near as hard as people would like to pretend.

Like Pearl, it might take a bit of time to land players like that...

Hat, are any of these 4 better coaches than Pearl in your eyes?
Kruger is one of the best, period. What Marshall did at Winthrop is still amazing to me. Mooney and Jankovich are less proven.

Seems to me it's all about relationships. Bob Hurley is in Rice's corner which helps in NE recruiting and obviously Huggins has a big network.

Kruger has proven over and over that he is one of the best coaches in the country. He wins every where he goes.

Basketball is not like football. You only need one good recruiting class and some role players and youre a national program again.

With the facilities we have now, any coach that has any recruiting ability and connections should be able to recruit to UT.

For those in Memphis, I believe that Pearl is going to be on Parrish's show this afternoon sometime between 4-6 pm. Not sure if they will really broach the subject, but given the discussion yesterday, it might come up.

If Pearl can exhibit any level of common sense, he would refuse to comment or engage in any discussion on those comments.

I agree that coaches can recruit with out doing it before. I was just trying to find out if others thought these specific ones could since I have little info.
I wasn't being critical of your question. Just pointing out that you don't get McDonald's type guys at mid majors, unless of course they happen to be your son. I measure how guys recruit in relationship to their peer programs.
