Public sentiment continues to increase in Pearls favor.

"Even ESPN analyst Dick Vitale is advocating Pearl be retained by Tennessee.

Vitale was one of the more vocal critics when Pearl’s unethical conduct violation was made public, saying “99-percent” of the schools in the country would have fired Pearl immediately.

On Friday, however, Vitale used his Twitter account to tweet: “Pearl’s kids love playing 4 him & he has accepted blame 4 his actions. With obvious penalty I now feel he deserves 2nd chance.’’

I love Pearl and felt like we should keep him if the bump violation didn't stand, but if the kids loved playing for Bruce then it speaks volumes of the kind of kids they are when they laid down and made not only Bruce look bad but the whole university on national tv.

Poor Dickie V. His morals have came a long way from "coaching suicide" to "sure, let 'em stay". I guess it's his old age.

Sure, the kids love playing for Bruce.

They won't be able to, whether or not we fire him.

Why don't people understand this?

Just take a glance at the author of the article OP has put up. That ends the discussion.

It's actually on the Tennessean as well... i guess the main newspaper for the state isn't a well enough referenced paper for your tastes.

It's referencing a gathering of 100 people. It's not like people are rioting in the street despite the efforts of Softball to make it sound that way.

It was hastily organized, though. It's not possible for thousands of students to rush the streets at a moment's notice...

No, but they have another rally planned for tomorrow and more and more people are now advocating for Bruce to stay. The longer it goes on the worse it is going to look when they do ultimately fire him.

Who is more and more? You are grossly exaggerating this situation.

Exactly. They might not have seen the Facebook notification.

That's why they are rallying again tomorrow. It must really irk you that there are a significant number of TN fans that are advocating for Bruce to stay.

I'm sure you would have loved a swift announcement of his firing and that TN moved on.. but every newspaper in the state, espn, foxsports, cbssports, are now posting articles about the thousands of TN fans rallying for their coach.

Local news channels are covering the rallys and people are seeing the support for Pearl. Will it make a difference? Probably not... but it doesn't discount the fact that not everyone shares your opinion of Bruce Pearl.

125 people at a rally equals thousands. That's really interesting.

I see Pearl supporters as being in three categories.

A) They don't have time to completely read through and understand the situation that Pearl got himself into and the consequences that would come if we retained him.

B) They don't realize that we went to the Sweet Sixteen five years before Pearl got here.

C) They think chest-painting is more important than winning.

Sadly, most fall into all three.

I guess they're doing the silent, anonymous advocating. I see your point now.

yep. they're being real silent. So silent the that WBIR Channel 10 ran a newscast saying over 5000 people had written and called the Chancellor's office at TN advocating for Pearl.. and that the Governors office was actually getting calls as well.

Sure is a lot of silent people out there i guess.

Make sure you tune in tomorrow night... they're going to have more live coverage from the rally at 5:30.

Oh, we're arguing different things I guess. I knew there were tons of people still in Pearl's corner. Go read VolQuest some time; that's probably where the majority of the calls and letters came from. I was under the impression that you were claiming that "social media" was sparking this revolution to keep Pearl, and that, surprisingly, is false.

nope, this argument has nothing to do with social media. Just don't forget though. Facebook got Obama elected! :p

Alright, I'm with you somewhat now. However, it's really not growing. I don't think many are changing their minds on whether to keep Pearl.

as you have said before, the one's who matter.. their minds are not going to be changed.

It's the average fan that isn't completely aware of the repercussions of keeping Pearl who are advocating for him to stay. The longer that battle is played in the media the worse it will look for TN in terms of national PR. The School, regardless of who the AD is.. needs to move and move quickly on this.
