That one was fun, though. But I'm not going to argue over a great running back that everyone here wanted on our team but couldn't get qualified. Saban wanted him badly, hence his comment. Check the TuscaloosaNews.com and BirminghamNews.com sports archives from about May/June of '07 and '06.

His academics had nothing to do with it. He tranferred upon hearing the news Shula was fired. Find another angle.

Saban is just mad that Leavitt is pulling a Girardi and winning with a lesser payroll.

Well actually, the SEC has 7 teams ranked in this weeks edition of the AP 25. There are 3 more teams with records that qualify them for the top 25, based on the premise that UTand UF and UGA are ranked with 2 losses. There is no other conference even close to that. The SEC only has 1 or 2 teams playing at or below .500 at this time. No other conference touches that. No other conference's cellar dwellers, major or mid, compare to the SEC lower half at this time. Basically, at this point in the season, considering the SEC occupies 28% of the top 25 vereses the next best at 16%, they all suck.

the big east currently has 3 undefeated teams, a one loss WVU team and a two-loss Rutgers team.

The Pac 10 has an undefeated Cal and Arizona State, one loss USC, and one loss Oregon.

SEC = 1 undef., 2 @ 1 loss, 8 @ 2 losses, and 1 below .500. 11 teams that have a record that could be considered for top 25. And also the no. 1 ranking.

Pac 10 = 2 undef., 2 @ 1 loss, 1 @ 2 losses, and five teams at/under .500. And a former #1 that lost to Stanford.

Big East = A conference where undefeated does not yet mean ranked, and just under 50% of the conference is at or below .500. I'll give you WV. I'm not discounting USF. Their proving themselves thus far.

Big 12, Big 10, ACC not really worth evaluating save Boston College, OSU and OU.

I'm really baffled that the Big East still exists as a conference, and that the left-over schools did'nt meld into other conferences. There must be some serious old school money proping that thing up.
