Did anyone watch Jon Stewart on Chris Wallace?

Do you think somebody can display their own bias in their writing without the explicit intent of altering opinion?

depends on the level of bias displayed. there is a fine line between bias and agenda, but stewart jumped over that line years ago.

Rush's show isn't comedy. I just have a hard time believing a comedy show has some agend to brainwash the youth into hating the right.

why? comedy has been used for politics for thousands of years.

This is what I mean. The show may have his opinions - but does he want to use his show to change the world? I don't think so.

i find it hard to believe that people who believe that strongly one way or another don't want to change other people's opinions. fanaticism works this way.

And where do you draw that line and how is it defined? Is it mere coincidence that you disagree with most of his viewpoints and refer to his material as a deliberate agenda rather than letting his own bias come through? On the other side of the same coin, since this thread is primarily about Fox News, do you see the nature, language and structure of FNC reporting as being deliberately formed around a conservative framework and agenda?

Not everybody is out to change the opinions of others. I think somewhere deep inside, you might just believe that Stewart, in his own mind, is at least trying to make a sincere effort to be a comedian first.

i just said the line was difficult for many. just not for stewart who is the most liberal individual on television. i'm sure there are individuals at foxnews driving an agenda. i'm not arguing comedy central as a whole is driving an agenda.

Not by a long shot.

he's not on television anymore. and i bet if you sat the two down they'd agree far more than disagree.

Countdown was moved to Current TV. And I bet they would agree about a lot. Stewart's opinion simply flows through his writing. Olbermann confuses his editorials with Shakespearean drama most of the time.

I don't understand how you can throw the word 'agenda' around like its commonplace. That's a pretty extreme word, imo. I'm sticking with the theory that you dislike Stewart/the subject is sensitive for you.

why do i dislike him if he's simply a comedian and not pushing an agenda? i like comedy. hell i like his show a lot of the time. i'm not arguing it's not funny.

Anybody watching Jon Stewart. Pretty good. He turned his research team on himself to show that Cain isn't special. Oh and he copped out by falling on the comedian excuse again. Silly Comedy Central.

stewart's poltiical influence should not be underestimated. if he wants to just make it a comedy show he should stick to the comedy and keep his political views out of it. it's not as though there isn't plenty of dumb to go around in DC to make fun of without driving your agenda.

Politicians are pure comedy gold. They basically write the material themselves.

but someone has to mine that gold - for some reason almost all comedians stay away from Obama.

I really can't figure out why.

Because they love his rhetoric.

Also it'd hard for SNL to do a "57 states" joke on Obama when a lot of the public isn't even aware that their silver-tongued prophet has speaking gaffes from time to time.

Palin was an easy target for SNL because various media outlets were all over her every time she had a "57 states" moment.

I agree with that. The Michelle Bachmann stuff was on Conan and Kimmel last night.

Libya had a wealth of joke material from the no hostilities to the kinetic action. Plenty of economy jokes, etc.

comedy has gotten lazy and focuses now on hammering gaffes rather than satirizing typical politician BS.

What CNN fact check are y'all referencing?

can't remember the details but there was a joke made on some program that was about Obama and CNN ran a fact check to show the basis of the joke was wrong.

unprecedented :)

EDIT: it was an SNL skit they fact checked.

And at times it just becomes pandering. I'm amazed every time I see comedians using Bush jokes in 2011.
