Honestly, for the system, lets say u **** up your liver because you drink way to much, shouldn't that take you off the list? I think its only fair. odds are that person will just **** away the new liver anyways.

RT, if Ron Paul were the one needing the heart, would you be as adamant in your opinion that a septuagenarian has no business receiving a heart transplant?

I only ask because, as VBH pointed out, you are usually a libertarian and not normally given to arguments revolving around "fairness".

not sure it takes you off the list...but they definitely take that situation into consideration.

Sinking to a new low in their disdain for Dick Cheney, the hosts on Monday's NBC Today wondered if the former vice president should have received a recent heart transplant, with Ann Curry declaring at the top of the broadcast: "...even though he has waited longer than most to receive his donor heart, some are questioning whether someone that old should be getting one..." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

I wouldn't comment on whether or not the man should die, but One Percent Doctrine among other things I've read about Cheney have convinced me that he is either an outright war criminal, or he is one the most naively dumb, and irresponsible people to ever hold national office.

If we are hell bent on limiting the donor list in this country, the last person a heart should go to is to one of the politicians who makes these rules.

meh. he waited what, 14 month? I'm actually surprised he was pushed to the front.

does this apply to smokers, fat people, and some type 2 diabetics, people that contract aids o from irresponsible sexual activity?

Imagine a day where organ transplant recipicients can have their organs taking away from them by a repo man! This would be awesome.

I always thought there was some sort of list and you had to meet certain criteria, both in terms of need and how likely it is to work (plus of course whether you match what is available). And if Cheney was on the list and his turn came up and he meets the criteria, who are we as lay people to second-guess that?

I suppose if the commentator doctor wanted to take issue with the criteria, ok. I suppose there could be some value to that. But short of some indication that Cheney cut in line, so to speak, I'd hardly call this controversial.

(And this is coming from someone who believes that Cheney is one of the worst things to happen to this country in 50 years).

Yes, why not? Smokers, know that they are at a higher risk to develop lung cancer then others who don't smoke, fat people know if they eat more, they are at a higher risk of multiple types of illness than others who maintain an average weight for their age, gender, and height. N people should always wrap it up, unless they want a baby, or aids anyways.

Cheney gets a new heart, the left (except for LG in this case) goes nuts

illegal alien gets a new heart/liver (whatever) after jumping line and the left yells, "squirrel!!!"

Um ABC did twice yesterday. 1st on "Good Morning America" and then again on their "Evening News"

Don't lump all liberals in the same boat. It would be like me saying all of those on the right are racist.

all us freedom loving folk love the freedom to decide who lives (people we like) and who dies (people we dislike)...

A pure donor system like the one Cheney certainly supports ensures that some don't get an organ transplant. A former Senator/VP has nothing to worry about.

I'm glad I don't have anything to do with making these type decisions. I think Cheney is a snake in the grass- putting it very mildly. However, I wish no ill health on him. That's BS, imo.
