RT, if Ron Paul were the one needing the heart, would you be as adamant in your opinion that a septuagenarian has no business receiving a heart transplant?
I only ask because, as VBH pointed out, you are usually a libertarian and not normally given to arguments revolving around "fairness".
I think that the person's name should never enter the equation.
We have to have some way of determining who gets organs as long as we are too stupid to let the market handle it.
I was told that age was one of the determining factors. The older you are, the harder it is to get a heart. That makes me very suspicious when a high-profile senior citizen gets one.
BTW, I am very much into fairness. That is why I lean libertarian. We just have different definitions of fairness.
To someone who posted earlier:
Things like smoking, weight, diabetes, etc are taken into account currently. Hey, they even want to know if you brush your teeth regularly and want to see your dental records.
