When you take an under talented team & confuse them with a over complicated scheme, you get last years UT defense.

They may not have all been Heisman candidates but we had adequate talent. It was simply uninspired and uncoached. Not only was Sal a dodo but he treated the players like peons. It's understandable that they didn't react positively to what little he could have offered.

And we are clearly undertalented on defense. What does adequate even equate to? You need to be fully capable and functional in my opinion. Adequate to me denotes major shortcomings. Not winning championships.

But, if we had gotten some leads with our offense, we actually were adequate enough to hold on. But by no means were we good enough on D to win because of our defense. Not by a longshot.

Last year we were 108th in defense. In the 3 previous years our classes were 6th in the SEC. There was and is talent but talent needs to be coached. The talent was adequate by SEC standards to hold the leads the offense offered. You can blame others. The coaching most high-schoolers receive is not sufficient to compete in the SEC. If the college coaches don't 'coach up' and don't instill enthusiasm and confidence, the blame does not lie with the kids. Also, the 3-4 is not that much more complicated than the 4-3. For the 3-4 to be successful requires appropriate talent, which we did not have, coaches who have mastered the style, which we did not have, and actually coaching the kids, which didn't happen..

Well, it can't be any worse, so I'm excited. Plus weren't we a top 30 D in 11 with the 4-3?

Are you saying we did not practice? Or that during practice the coaches just played Pokeno? What exactly are you implying?

Whatever the case, I hope CBJ can get the best out of our players. That is what is really important.

Don't get confused by the #28 ranking in total defense. Who did we ever stop when we needed to? We lost the same games in 2011 as we did in 2012. Our defense was by no means a fearsome unit in either year. We are going to need one Hell of a coaching job to have a good season this year. Like you said, can't get worse. So I am hopng for the best.
