When you take an under talented team & confuse them with a over complicated scheme, you get last years UT defense.
And we are clearly undertalented on defense. What does adequate even equate to? You need to be fully capable and functional in my opinion. Adequate to me denotes major shortcomings. Not winning championships.
But, if we had gotten some leads with our offense, we actually were adequate enough to hold on. But by no means were we good enough on D to win because of our defense. Not by a longshot.
Are you saying we did not practice? Or that during practice the coaches just played Pokeno? What exactly are you implying?Last year we were 108th in defense. In the 3 previous years our classes were 6th in the SEC. There was and is talent but talent needs to be coached. The talent was adequate by SEC standards to hold the leads the offense offered. You can blame others. The coaching most high-schoolers receive is not sufficient to compete in the SEC. If the college coaches don't 'coach up' and don't instill enthusiasm and confidence, the blame does not lie with the kids. Also, the 3-4 is not that much more complicated than the 4-3. For the 3-4 to be successful requires appropriate talent, which we did not have, coaches who have mastered the style, which we did not have, and actually coaching the kids, which didn't happen..
Well, it can't be any worse, so I'm excited. Plus weren't we a top 30 D in 11 with the 4-3?
