DJ Durkin in trouble

Like others have said Durkin is history. Urban should be but I'm guessing the AD who has already took a vacation will "take one for the team". If tOSU was going to fire Myers they would have done so already to prepare to find his replacement, not drag it out until right before the season starts. Wonder how the B1G is liking their additions these days. First the disgrace at Penn State and now this at Maryland.

Maryland is in the ACC.

Apparently players are recanting their claims to ESPN that Durkin would belittle and humiliate players during practice. And without a culture of bullying and demeaning players into overworking themselves, it's going to be hard for Maryland to fire him for cause. Him hiring an incompetent trainer is not enough to get out of the $7 million they still owe him.

I can't imagine him actually coming back to the job, recruiting would be basically impossible. But Maryland isn't exactly in the position where they can absorb a $7 million buyout + buyout for new head coach + new head coach contract. Yikes. I wonder if they'll just ride out Matt Canada for a while if this season continues to go alright?

Maryland football coach DJ Durkin, who has been on administrative leave since Aug. 11, is expected to return to the sidelines on the recommendation of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, according to a person familiar with the situation. Athletic Director Damon Evans also will be returning, and Maryland President Wallace D. Loh is planning to retire in June, in the wake of the controversy that has rocked the College Park campus the past two months.

I'm surprised he stayed on. Football isn't religion at Maryland, and he hasn't even been all that good. It isn't like they'd feel compelled to jump through hoops and make a ton of excuses to keep him.

Collegiate sports has evolved into something I'm not sure I like. CFB is now, probably, the most $$$ successful minor league in history.

I feel like Canada has done a better job than Durkin did

Agreed. The story this morning was that the President of Maryland suggested to the Board of Regents that Durkin be fired. After Durkin met with the same group the President was told he had to let him come back or he (Maryland President) would be fired. Doesn't make sense.

Just seen this out of the investigation. Their recruiting is getting ready to go backwards. Reports of players walking out of the meeting yesterday when Durkin came back.

Examples, in the investigators’ telling, include:

Players were made to watch graphic videos while eating:
Multiple players anonymously complain that the coaching staff would subject teams during meal time to disturbing videos. According to Gus Little, this included videos of serial killers, drills entering eyeballs, and bloody scenes with animals eating animals. Another player says that there were videos of rams and bucks running at each other at full speed. Mr. Durkin maintains that horror movies were sometimes shown at breakfast to motivate and entertain players.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland's student government association has organized a rally Thursday to protest the reinstatement of football coach DJ Durkin and to demand justice for Jordan McNair, the Maryland offensive linemen who died June 13 from heatstroke he suffered after a May 29 team workout.

Durkin returned to work Tuesday after the University System of Maryland's board of regents recommended his reinstatement after reviewing an investigative report into the culture of Durkin's program. The third-year coach had been on paid administrative leave since Aug. 11.

From what I understand the boosters wanted to keep Durkin unless physically impossible. He apparently has embraced himself to the donors. I dont want to say he is a yes man as that might be too extreme but the boosters get almost what they need with Durkin at helm. Some coaches as we know tend to alienate themselves from friends of the program. Durkin has embraced them. Obviously hearsay as i live in Dandridge TN but gave friends that moved here from Baltimore so i get some Maryland gossip. Lol

should have fired him anyway - him trying to recruit after all this would be a disaster-- wonder if he gets the buyout since the moron reinstated him for a day

He’s taking a beat down from the major sports radio and tv here in the DMV. He finally relented
Players walked out of the meeting. Different players didn't show up to practice today.

I don’t know what they thought was going to happen but it makes sense to me
