DJ Durkin in trouble

If their investigation cleared him of wrongdoing, and they are going to fire him anyway, does that mean they are firing him without 'cause' and they will have to pay out his contract?

From the ESPN article:

"Durkin has approximately $8.5 million left on his deal. Per his contract, if Maryland does not fire him for cause -- which the university is not doing, according to a spokesperson -- he is owed 65 percent of the total, which is $5.53 million.
Half of the $5.53 million will be paid out in the first 60 days after his termination (by Dec. 31), and the rest will be paid on a monthly basis."

You stupidly push kids to their limit, have a player die, and then get paid 5+ million after nearly keeping your job

Crazy world we live in.
Im not so sure most coaches dont push kids to the limits. This was an unfortunate case. Every successful coach ive read about if a kid says not feeling well the coach wants them to push through it. Its truly a tragic story. I hope all the kids family gets the comfort and financial stability they need out of this.

I guess I agree about pushing kids to their limits. My coaches pushed me hard, but I never felt like I was ever in danger. From what I read, Maryland really pushed it to the extreme.

While I agree if you read what the investigation uncovered it is disgusting. We aren't just talking about making someone run an extra lap.

Perhaps the dumbest move an athletic department has taken in a long time, and that's saying a lot. There are a lot of dumb moves to pick from. This is even dumber than offering Schiano and pulling it because keeping Durkin only to fire him a day later is going to cost them another $5.5m.

DJD better drop half that buyout in stocks. He won't be HC in college for a good bit. If ever again. He's damaged goods. NFL team might pick him up for positional coach. Maybe another smaller program as a positional. Won't be a Coord or HC again for a minute.

If they replace a Meyer assistant with another Meyer assistant, they are so thoroughly stupid that they should just shut down their program.

They did reinstate Durkin, only to fire him 24 hours later. It won't surprise me if they hire Art Briles, fire him 2 days later and have to pay a 5-year contract buyout, and settle on Hugh Freeze in January of 2019.

Then fire Hugh when he meets a prostitute in a church sanctuary, then hire Urban, who quits a week later because of high blood pressure.

What if it came down to Butch and Sciano (sp).. That scenario would be poetically comical...
