Anyone that says DK was better than Houston…never watched Houston.
This aged well!!! Good job!I meant top 20, my bad. I think he probably will. I think saying he will definitely be a lottery pick is outrageous. Some mocks have him going as low as 28. I think he could sneak into top 15 but I’d expect 17 or so, which is outstanding. I don’t get why that Kansas dude is projected above Knecht.
He was often guarding the other teams' best inside player, which at the time was likely their best player. Was Dale Ellis a good defender at all? His hustle stats are fkn awful in the pros and not great in college. He literally had 4 blocks his junior and senior years. How is that even possible? There is no such thing as a good defender at forward who gets 4 blocks every 1200 minutes. Knecht had 23 blocks as a wing in 1100 minutes.

Or just a generational thingI doubt that he rejected many of Ralph Sampson’s shots.
Dale Ellis said that he was returning his senior year to work on his defense under Devoe. Devoe’s tough man to man translated well to the NBA.
When Dale Ellis would be interviewed by the media I remember him calling Don Devoe “Devoe”. Not “Coach Devoe”. Just “Devoe”. I don't think I’ve heard any of CRB’s players calling him “Barnes” in public. But, I think I’ve heard Bert B, as a former player, also call him “Devoe”. Maybe CDD was cool with it.
Or just a generational thing
I always heard Ellis and DeVoe and DeVoe didn't get along that wellDevoe’s military-like approach was certainly losing favor with the last of the Baby Boomer era players.
Ellis was a generational talent, but I don’t think of him as an exceptional team leader. His last 2 teams really faded down the stretch in 1982 and 1983. 1982 started the SEC 9-0 and went 4-5 over the back 9 while giving up the SECT #1 seed to KY. The 1982-83 team was blown out by 9-9 Georgia in the SECT. I don’t think those last two Dale Ellis teams had good chemistry.
Yeah, I mean, i was kinda joking when I said it (thus the “better handles, jumps higher, runs faster, better slasher, gets to the rim better” part) because we always look for a guy of the same race to compare, but I never would’ve thought JJ would be his coach! No idea how JJ will do as a coach, but I think he’ll be good for DK, and probably boosts his ability to contribute immediately, vs landing in Milwaukee with doc rivers or something like that. It’s crazy you mentioned the Redick thing and he ends up coaching him.
Dale was an excellent defender at 6'7" who always had to play the post because Devoe just couldn't recruit quality BIGS. Perhaps compare the rebound stats of Ellis to Knect. As Dale wasn't always tall as the opposing teams 5, thus he wasn't getting blocked shots. Sadly, it took the NBA to where Dale found his true position at the wing where he could flat out fill it up from the perimeter. That was never going to happen under Devoe or those few years with the Mavs. Was Dale Ellis a good defender at all? His hustle stats are fkn awful in the pros and not great in college.
