Thanks. Now my expectations have been lowered. If the guy is like Hopson then I hope the first thing Martin does is make him dribble basketballs until his arms get cramps.

I coached with Shulman with the Ballerz, helped coach Scotty. We all had same thoughts about Scotty going in, he did same stuff in AAU that he did while at TN, he NEVER changed.

Edwards played in 26 games as a freshman at brevard.
Only really bad thing I see on him is that he averaged 1.3 steals and 1.5 turnovers per game.
Since chievous and Richardson won't be seeing much playing time next 2 years, I think he's bringing in some experienced bench depth.
Hopefully, he improves on the turnovers this season.

1.5 turnovers for a non-PG isn't bad. TO's are never a good thing, but that shouldn't worry you in the slightest. Also Turnover ratio is compared to steals AND assists. So he is probably in the positive.

He is a wing, you can't expect PG numbers here with TO/ A&S ratio.

That turnover stat doesn't alarm me for a player consistently attacking the basket. Even Michael Jordan himself was near 3 turnovers a game.

That is not even close to bad for a T.O. ratio. And anything over 1 steal per game is solid.

He was named Florida's Community College Athletic Association player of the week. Chris Jones and former recruit Joseph Uchebo (Yemi's teammate) were notable mentions.

Definitely appears to have the SEC body which is one reason I've expected big minutes from him. 2 years in JC will definitely help with that.
My main question is how long it will take him to adjust to the perimeter after playing a face up 4 in JUCO. Early on, I'll be watching for his ball handling abilities.

He played as a face up 4 in the paint in JC?

No, but - generally - face up 4s don't handle the ball as much as a 2 or 3. Think of the difference between Chism and Bradshaw when they played the four spot. Bradshaw handled a lot. Chism not so much. Those are the extremes to me. I suspect Edwards will be more like Tyler Smith (as a ball handler, not as an overall player). Tyler was a better ballhandler than Chism by far, but still not a guy who would have thrived at 2. He tried a little 3 while he was here, but never settled there.

Thus, I'll be eager to see what kind of handle he has. Perimeter ball handling was a major challenge for Tennessee last season. I hope the guys out there this year are ready to take a step up.

I haven't seen him play, I was unaware he played the 4, thought he played more 3 in JC.

On the sports animal today they were talking with either griff or Quinn can't remember...he was talking about Edwards and expectations. Compared him to Scotty Hopson in his ability to score both driving to the basket an from the perimeter.

Said CCM recruited him as a scorer, he was looking to add scoring ability on the wing, and loved what he saw in Edwards. Said he's 6'7" 200+lbs and will bring it on both ends with consistency.

Said definitively CCM recruited him to play and to start, but that he will indeed have to earn that a does anybody on the team under CCM. Said hell have to prove to CCM he is going to play with that intensity on both ends, but is expecting big minutes and big thing from Edwards. Also mentioned his juco numbers and said will be interesting to see if he can translate his juco game into the SEC, that's been many peoples biggest question about him.

Made me feel much better about my high expectation for him.

Anyone know if they ran a motion style offense at his Juco? That would go a long way towards Edwards getting on the floor early.

Really don't have a clue, the extra practices this summer, plus the extra practices for Italy, plus the Italy trip should all help him get acclimated.
